Nothing is gonna happen if the evidence isn't absolutely damning, isn't that how it's always with celebrities?
If West Indies cricket is anything like Australian Rugby they will be able to get away with a lot and keep playing

Yeah the Joseph stuff is just grim as hell. Unlike Kuggs he's clearly in the WIndies Best XI too so invariably all West Indian matches will have a cloud over them now (well unless he actually goes to jail). Feel awful for the victims and the fans.

Considering Australia is a more developed nation than Guyana by a rather significant margin (no offense to anyone from there of course), I reckon it is probably even worse.

Are you talking about rugby or rugby league? The NRL now has mandatory stand downs in situations of serious criminal allegations against players. One bloke sat out two years while awaiting trial and eventual acquittal.

So if the player turns out to be innocent they've lost years of play and income, possibly ending their career, you don't see an issue with that? Or is it a case of collateral damage as a result of a necessary system. Should the hypothetical player be compensated after the fact?

My understanding is they continue to be paid while they’re stood down. There’s no easy way to deal with an issue like this, but I think the sport takes the view the it’s the lesser of two evils compared with the damage to the game done by having someone playing with that sort of allegation hanging over their head.
Theyre effectively the player’s employer, so if they decide to stand them down on pay pending the outcome of the court case, it’s kind of their prerogative.

Nothing is going to happen anytime soon. They'd need a change in govt.
I have a feeling a law suit will be announced next week. Then it will be over to CWI to see what they do.

If nothing happens it's going to be a very challenging watch because he is an exceptional cricketer and will no doubt keep taking wickets and being in the headlines.

Australia's 5 to 7 are such better bats than the top 4 here. Strange dynamic. It's giving 2000s NZ
While 4 has been where a lot of the top batters in Test cricket have resided in recent times, the trend worldwide is for openers and 3s scoring far fewer runs than before because it’s simply harder, you currently have 3s like Green and Pope who have stepped up because of a lack of alternatives, without much success yet in the case of Green, and to middling success so far with Pope

Thank goodness Carey has got his batting mojo atm. We have major problems at 3 and 4 and neither Green or Inglis are the men for the spots. More applause for Webster. He's played practically all his innings on green mambas and averaged 45. Assuming Smith still isn't ready I'd bring back Marnus which would at least push Green one lower in the order. We all know Marnus has been sucking lemons for a while but given the squad and injury to Smith we'll have to delay his sabbatical. Ideally we'd have McSweeney in the squad ...

I bet the WI are rueing their little conversation with Roach now. Even more inexplicable as they must have known something of the present accusations. I imagine the conversation with Roach might be along the lines of Maxwell Smart: "Look, I hope I wasn't out of line with that you're too old for cricket wisecrack."

Its a hard situation regarding standing down players on accusations and I'm generally against it. The situation regarding the young Manly player many years ago being particularly bad. He was a gun player too and eventually acquitted. An outcome like that calls for a review. But what to do? It's hard for a game's governing organisation to handle all the issues regarding player's rights, victim's accusations and the impact on their own business. Figure out a balanced outcome with all of those considerations - good luck. But I think the quantity of accusations could be considered. If they become numerous the governing body should feel confident in acting a little more drastically.

i think it's a pretty good policy precisely because it's black and white and totally agnostic as to the content of the allegation
i really don't like the idea of the nrl delegating itself quasi-tribunal of fact authority and evaluating the merits of SA allegations, to me that just seems like a total palava

They still get paid their contract while they're stood down to avoid this sort of thing happening afterwards.
