Press will attack Amroim and the system but the players who started the game should be embarrassed at that 1st half performance.

Can’t remember the last time a keeper got hands on 4 penalties for 1 save. He got 2 hands on one that went in. I would have yanked him at the half and sold him this weekend.

Said in preseason that 39yo Heaton was the best option and that hasn’t changed.

Surprised that they are not in the Donarumma sweepstakes (at least not publicly)

It's so weird how flawed his system looks at United given how good his Sporting side were. How many managers is it now though who have come in, implemented a system that's worked very well in Europe elsewhere, signed a ton of players and still not been able to get results? It has to go deeper than just tactics and personnel, the club is just rotting from within. Be a brave man to leave a decent job and take on United the way things are going atm.

Professional performance from Everton, class finish from Alcaraz for the first goal, he was excellent. Grealish got another solid run out, him and N'Diaye are so much better than anything we've had for years, it's wild. Going from the likes of Harrison, Lindstrom and Doucoure to Grealish, N'Diaye and Dibling is some upgrade. Just need to get another RB and DM in now. Striker is also a litlte bit of a concern, Barry didn't have much impact but also not much service, Beto got a tap in but is Beto. Think they'll see how those two go first half of the season before moving on another centre forward though, have to give Barry a chance.

Amorim’s system is a bit of a red herring. The only obvious alternative is very similar to what Ten Hag played, and we didn’t look any better then. Our squad is a bit like the one Emery inherited at Arsenal where it’s almost impossible to assemble a tactically coherent system. The lack of ball winning ability in midfield is so acute that it can’t really be worked around.

That’s obviously not to say Amorim is doing a good job. He’s been there a year and it’s hard to see any positive impact whatsoever. Our first priority in this cycle should have been to develop our promising young players and instead he’s forcing them out. At this point it’s probably worth firing him just to keep Garnacho and Mainoo at the club. But the recruitment is so bad that it won’t really make any difference.

25 years ago maybe. Absolutely no chance of this in 2010.
Certainly 20 years ago, both us and them were top 20 clubs in Europe in terms of revenue despite absolutely paltry TV deals. The ship might have sailed by 2010, I'm not sure at what point TV revenue, European prize money and commercial revenue would have really exploded in England (and other leagues) that would have pushed us way down the pecking order.

Always used to be a discussion didn't it.

Rangers just loaned a 19 year old left back who would be 4th choice at Brentford. No Premier League club would be doing that.

Agreed, it's clearly shifted now. Worth pointing out that you paid £10m for said left back, which would represent a major outlay for us, whereas for a Premier League team that's a cheap punt on a player with potential.

Ruben still hasn't won 2 games in a row in 45 games , something with ETH actually managed.

From the Athletic on him.

Positives: He talks a great game, Amorim does. A masterful press conference communicator.

Negatives: where does one even begin?

Utter lack of tactical flexibility. No system, no process, no creativity - just a rigid formation.
Makes the team less than the sum of its parts.
Not a winning coach, and not an aesthetically pleasing style either. What even does he do?
Man management skills - pretty poor (see - rashford, garnacho, mainoo, rasmus, et al)
Needs a preseason - had a preseason
Needs new players - has spent 200M pluss and Cunha, Mbuembo, etc are high quality players.
''You will see an idea'' - what idea? What is the idea that he has brought?

Joke of a manager, needs to go - even his supporters see it now

In terms of revenue maybe, but any suggestion that Rangers were amongst the top 20 teams in Europe in 2005 in terms of footballing ability is absolutely fanciful.

In think the whole argument/debate about whether Rangers/Celtic were of a comparable standard to the top English Prem sides died by 2003 at the latest to be honest. I remember Rangers being drawn in the same CL group as Man Utd that year and the press trying to build it up as a "battle of Britain". But in reality both matches between them were complete damp squibs where Man Utd didn't have to get out of first gear to get the win, with midfield dynamo/goal machine Phil Neville (of all people) dominating proceedings. I don't remember anyone speaking seriously about Rangers being deserving of a place in the English Prem ever since.
