5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

We finally get a traditional Bazball innings from England:

- blast out of the gate
- momentum held for a while
- collapse and barely scrape past the opposition's score

It truly is a thing of beauty.
By "traditional" Bazball innings I see you mean "the sort of innings people have been saying for years is a natural product of Bazball but in reality rarely happens".

Seen a stat from Ben Jones on Twxtter that suggests that England’s expected score by the end of their innings was 138-6, stands to reason, Duckett, Crawley and Smith got out cheaply, all the other out and out batters got out to good balls
Duckett and Crawley were two of your top scorers though. It looks kinda like a pitch where a ball has your name on it and you better get as many runs as you can before it arrives.

Is it me or have we also seen an array of dismissals on a return from a session break in this series?

Maybe it’s just caught my attention more than usual.

India’s day today and if they can get a lead up to 200 and upwards they hold all the cards.

Losing Woakes to injury might prove the difference in this test if India can get through the morning tomorrow and tire England out.

Omg Nair’s dismissal. Ball literally did nothing and he just casually played the wrong line by about half a metre. Embarrassing

Seems Duckett was also caught on camera telling Akashdeep he cant get him out. I kinda understand the send off now but still think it could have been done better coz it just looked bad.
Probably shouldn't have touched him (in fact he shouldn't have) but definitely not worth outrage (not yours, clearly).

Only saw the post-dismissal arm around him and nothing of the aftermath. I thought they must have been County or IPL team mates or something. The part I saw looked like a couple of mates having a chat.

I don't think Duckett particularly enjoyed it. Definitely deserved a send-off if he said the bowler wouldn't get him out, and also deserves one for reverse lapping into the cordon. But you don't touch a batsman. Nor I reckon do you justify giving him an elbow to the chops like Trescothick suggested would be fair.

Love the niggle though, Test cricket as always delivering

I know commentators have waxed lyrical about Rahul and his technique but this was a pretty lame way to get out. No wonder he's a 35 average player. Looked like he was in the form of his life but somehow you felt he came up a bit short when it mattered most.
wonder how the pitch is going to behave as the match progresses
apparently the weather will be ok tomorrow but I still think there will be enough in the pitch if a bowler pitches it up and remains patient
