Honestly his existence alone makes me feel better about the future of Aus bowling because everyone here thought he was just a slightly-above-average Shield trundler before his debut, and he's turned out to be absolutely world class. So maybe the standard of Shield bowling is actually higher than we all assume.
If a guy bowls 80 to 82 mph, hits a good length with well over 50% of his deliveries and seams it both ways, he is going to succeed at test level, especially when part of an attack with 3 other guys who can hit 140kph.

I think I understand what has irked ne so much about that batting performance.

Before the series, I was delighted that we were ringing the changes in our batting lineup as I was so tired of the usual suspects. Yes I would never have picked Chase, but Hope would have been my choice for keeper batter as well.

But watching Chase and Hope both get out in exactly the same ways they have been when they royally sucked from 2018 to 2019, leads me to question my original thinking. Is it just that these two can't bat in tests as they have a major technical floor that they can't overcome? Are we better off trying a bunch of youngsters and hoping they learn on the job? I just don't know anymore.

As much as I'm up for Boland and love to overrate him, he's almost exclusively played on seaming decks. Don't get me wrong, he's great on them, but he's basically a lower volume, slightly better version of Philander or Ashwin/Jadeja

West Indies is the hardest place to open but he hasn't shown any adaptation to it over the last three games, cannot see how he could play in the Ashes.

Uzi really should be on thin ice as well as 4/5 past series have been poor but he’ll get a farewell Ashes

Should be Konstas' last test for a while surely
Yeah he's 19 ffs. He needs at least a full season if not two to work on his game. Otherwise he risks being permanently damaged by being persisted with short term when he's plainly not ready.

Sabina the hardest of them all. Only two opening stands over 100 in the past 30 years. Warner and Shaun Marsh the last, a decade ago.
