Whatever it takes!!!
Haha. the last thing I expected in this series was this kind of a grinding day. I did not think such a day was possible with England bowling and definitely not with England batting.

Mature display and hard test cricket without conceding an inch from either side. Good to see. :) Get the feeling they will Bazball us tomm though. :(

Job well done by both teams with Eng ever so slightly ahead. We need one of these and Smith inside the first hour tomorrow else things could get away fast.

Stokes feeling his groin is a worry, especially with Jofra more than likely not able to bowl extended spells, but the positive thing about England batting so sensibly is that it's given Carse that bit longer to recover, at this rate he might not even be needed until Day 3. Speaking of which, is Pant going to be able to bat?

🤷‍♂️ GIven the downpour of wickets in the WTC final, maybe it's not such a surprise that the scoring was slower?

Lords is a funny ground - it has more personalities that any place I’ve seen in the world. Maybe why it’s the home of cricket. Who knows what pitch will show up tomorrow but it was a great day out there today

Joe Root passed 3000 runs against India this innings, the first to do so against them and the 9th player overall to hit 3000 against a single team

1. Hobbs 3636 vs Australia
2. Bradman 5028 vs England
3. Sobers 3214 vs England
4. Gower 3269 vs Australia
5. Border 3548 vs England
6. S Waugh 3200 vs England
7. Tendulkar 3630 vs Australia
8. S Smith 3417 vs England
9. Root 3036 vs India so far
The sorting of this list, where you are presenting the achievement by date rather than by total runs scored is making me unnaturally angry.

England don’t always bat the entirety of the lifespan of a red cherry, but out of all the times they have under Baz, have they ever scored fewer runs or lost fewer wickets?
It's been an impressive change in approach so far. I expected them to be either all out or quite a few wickets down when I woke up this morning.

You can imagine my disappointment when they weren't.

On another day India might have picked up another 1-2 wickets. A grind all around for both teams. Not great viewing given the slowness of the pitch but could end up being a close match.

Stokes probably won't be able to bowl or at least not much. Archer we know won't be bowling great number of overs. Also given the heat, it's likely gonna come down to Carse and Woakes to bowl longer spells as well as shoulder most of the burden of taking 20 wickets.

A lot riding on an out of form Woakes then. Maybe England are relying on his track record at Lords. But is this the kind of pitch he is used to at Lords? England might be relying on his record without providing the conditions that have led to his success.
