In terms of pure bowling skill, is Bumrah the greatest you have seen?

This would make sense if framed the way you're putting it forward, but they are many saying he's already clearly the best ever, first name of the sheet.

That's nonsense. I'm not even putting him past Wasim as yet.

Speaking of keepers - though this probably isn’t the thread for this, found an interesting piece by Davis from 10 years ago in my bookmarks. Analysis of fielding in general and missed chances from 2000-2015, though he himself says probably only 2003 onwards would be definitive. Miss rates for leading keepers were about 10% off pacers, and 30% for spinners (also includes stumpings). Keeping to a spinner a real test.

Is it so much comparing them skill wise, or comparing them based on where they comparatively fall within their own disciples?

Or rating them and see which scores higher within your own criteria.

Yeah, agreed.

Reason I don't really rate some keepers at all and a reason why I select certain players in particular scenarios.

Simple question, who is a greater threat right now to Mcgraths and Sachins standings respectively, Bumrah or Steve Smith?

Currently neither are, but both have a chance to get there.

This is one of the 3 great bowling eras along with the 50's and 90's, and batsmen look sadly ill equipped at times.
If Smith gets a second surge, in this of all eras, he has a chance.
The next two years will be equally key for Bumrah, I'll be honest, not a fan of missing tests, and his team winning the one he missed isn't exactly great, but will see how the series unfolds.

Skill wise Bumrah is special, already easily an all time great he's not as yet top 10. Smith is.

One name, Allan Davidson.
