*Official* Australia Tour of West Indies 2025

Green just isn't a #3. That was clear from the WTC finals. Inglis and him really should have swapped spots in the order
The bottom line is that they have lost a single series for the past 4 years (that too is a very respectable 2 - 1 in India) when Marnus, Smith and Head batted from 3 to 5. Sure there were ups and downs but the job was getting done in what was a bowler friendly era. Not ****ing around with that atleast until they lose something would be great.

Green isn't a number 3 and Inglis isn't a number 4. If they are trialling KP at 3 or someone who can actually bat in the top order, I can understand the change but this is pointless

Well that was a fun day. Excellent test cricket.

That final session against Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins on that pitch, in fading light, is about as hard as batting can get tbh.

For that reason, I thought it could be worse than 57/4. Carty looked pretty solid, he just needs to learn to kick on. King has already played an excellent debut innings tbh, to look pretty comfortable against those bowlers was impressive.

Pretty worried about tomorrow, I hope we play pretty aggressively to put some pressure back on the bowlers. If they sit there we'll be 100 all out.

I actually expected them to be bowled out by stumps. Still dont see them getting past 100. Bowling looking good though

Green is a 4 at best and ideally a 5

Inglis should be 5 or 6

Webster is an all rounder who has spent much of his time at 7 in fc and really isn’t much of a bowler

I have more faith in Carey at 4 or above & nobody is calling for that

I like Roston Chase, but he’s getting up there in the worst to play 50 Tests stakes too. Ashraful still takes the cake, but he’s probably in the discussion.
Yep Roston needs a dramatic turnaround and fast. Its hard to imagine how good he looked in his first 10 tests when you see him hop around now.

Easily. I can't think of worse, both aesthetically and statistically.
Has to be Bairstow doesn't it? Braithwaite is an opener and had far less support throughout his career. Even in the worse lineups Bairstow played in England had root+stokes around him and a very good #8-11.

True, but his average is a good 4 points better than Kraigg.

I might be biased because Kraiggs dourness seemed to rub off on a generation of batters in the Caribbean, resulting in really boring test cricket.

West Indies is not the best place to try a new batting lineup. England have fallen foul of this in the past. Australia's bowling will ensure victory though.

No idea if the stats would back this up, but I'd go as far as saying the Windies is the hardest place to bat in the world over the last decade or so.

Australia's batters have two main problems in this series IMHO.

1) they are up against two outstanding bowlers in Seales and Shamar.

2) They haven't played in the Caribbean before. It was noticeable that Green and Inglis, for example, were playing with hard hands. They don't seem technically equipped for our slow pitches with tennis ball bounce and our dukes ball that swings even more than the English one does.

Still, they may work it out by the end of the series and that will do them good.

I think a feature of Green's batting, at least in tests, has been pushing at the ball with hard hands early. Hopefully this series helps him work it out, but I am not holding my breath.

Would love to see him become a better starter and kick on.

Honestly I can't say anything about this particularly surprised me, a blatant example that change isn't always for the better. Konstas especially still shouldn't be anywhere near Test cricket at this point in his career, still only has one genuinely outstanding FC game to his credit in his short career, not sure what universe that is enough to justify the level of faith being shown in him by Bailey and his mob of merry men but I know it's certainly not one I want to live in. I mean I'm not sure what the actual solution is, all the potential options I have seen floated (Weatherald, Ward, KPat, McSweeney and a couple others) all have flaws themselves, but every single last one is a better option than trusting a 19 year old with minimal FC experience and results to fall back on

Green at 3 still isn't something I love either but I'm not quite ready to call it a failed experiment... yet. He is clearly just a bad starter, have faith that if he was to survive to 15-20 he has a good chance of being able to go on with it, so I would give him the series at least there, but if it's still the same story come the end it's fair to say it would be time to mothball that idea entirely. As for Inglis, the less said about that shot the better

So much of the reason that I was opposed to dropping Marnus wasn't so much that I thought that he was batting well, just that it seemed pretty clear to me the alternatives were significantly worse. Khawaja playing a decentish innings only reinforces this, would always have more trust in someone who does have prior success than players who don't have history in that specific role (Green, Inglis) or those who don't have much at FC level at all (Konstas)
