**Official** English Football Season 2024/25

Cricketer Of The Year
God knows where this team would be without Declan Rice. He's such a gun. Easily my favourite post-Wenger Arsenal player.
Yeah, no idea how Skipper managed to miss him from his team of the year, virtually one the first names on the sheet.

Obviously glad that Palace won, but how Henderson avoided red is a joke. What is the point of VAR if it cannot fix such obvious errors as that?

I really hope this is bait. The PR hype around Rice is unrivalled.

I guess the starting point would be does he come in for Gravenberch or Caicedo, in your view?

Seems a deal between LFC and Bournemouth is advancing for Kerkez. Player has agreed to the move.

Not sure how to feel about if after the Frimpong signing. Clear indication that we're going to be an extremely aggressive side next season.

Glad we're getting business done early though

Yup. Spot on.

I don't want to say it's the worst decision I've ever seen because that's a very high bar, but it's there or thereabouts. Say what you want about Wrighty as a pundit, but he was a top, top striker in his day and knows an "obvious goalscoring opportunity" when he sees one. His "Team Beagles" credentials could hardly be much stronger either and even he didn't attempt to defend the indefensible.

I've not heard anyone support the ref. If it's not an obvious goalscoring opportunity then frankly I've never seen one.

Ref swallowed it, IMHO.

Speaking of which, not seen any chat here about Haarland's spurning of the pen?

If he didn't fancy it I think it was the right shout. Players doubting themselves is the first step to them missing the penalty, stating the bleedin' obvious as I am.

It would have been a clear goal-scoring opportunity if Francis Jeffers had been through on goal tbh, let alone Erling ****ing Haaland.

RE: penalties, people should get off Haaland's back tbh. I think there's some old school bullshit stereotyping/logic that holds "if you are a good forward you must be good at penalties and should be automatically enrolled to take all of them" underlying all this, and obviously that is trash.

I remember Henry used to get quite a bit of this, back in the day. People would always whine about him "shirking" penalty duty so that Pires or Lauren could take them, but this ignored the fact that Henry's penalty record was actually pretty patchy (missed nearly 25% of all those he took over the course of his career apparently).

Maybe he was a bit two bob outside the Prem but after a bit of Googling it looks like only the famously god-tier penalty whisperer, Matt Le Tiss, scored more Prem pens with a higher conversion rate than Sir Terence:

Interesting that Henry's percentage is that high tbh. I can remember him missing a lot, but those must have predominantly been European/cup games I guess.

Also very interesting that Shearer does not feature on that list at all. I don't remember him missing a single one.

No Van Nistelrooy quite notable as well.
