Best knock by a tailender?

Wondering what are the best test innings played by a genuine tailender, not a kinda of allrounder like Wasim or so. Needs to be at least 50 or above to qualify.

That qualification is not good. That English guy, lynch? With stokes is a good one. May and McDermott, though losing was good.

With your qualification, McGrath?

A few which spring immediately to mind

Eddie Hemmings 95 vs Australia as nightwatchman at Sydney 1982/83
Starc 99
Harby made a couple of tons
Larwood 90 odd as nightwatchman in the Bodyline series would probably be right up there too.
Geoff Lawson made a really good 70 odd at Lord's in 89
Merv Hughes 70 odd vs WI in Adelaide in 88/89 also a shout.

Yeah but I prefer innings in which the tailender is playing a more active rather supportive role.

Gillespie 201* v Bangers, with Test batting Av of 18 and FC 19.59, can't be held to be an AR. Take out the 201* and his average drops to 15.6. Dropped after scoring it to, cause his bowling had wilted.
There is a serious list of good batsman without test double tons, Mark Waugh, Michael Hussey, Desmond Haynes, Mohammed Azharuddin, Michael Vaughan

Symcox scores 108 against Waqar, Shoaib, Saqlain and Mushtaq to rescue South Africa from 166-8. However, Symcox averaged 28 so I am not sure if he is a tailender though he was batting no.10.

Symcox was practically a batting all-rounder
