Australian test selection 2018/19

Firstly, why is Siddle still in the squad?

Secondly, to Langer, Renshaw might have made more runs if you hadn't dumped him out of the team after an incident where he shouldn't have been fielding where he was but was to protect one of your/Hohns' apparent favourites, dip.
Suspect Alf is keeping the spot open for Bancroft (who let it not be forgotten was on the verge of getting dropped when he got suspended. He's not an incumbent, as such)

Langer's reign will end in tears

Too much of an in-house man...everything that the Longstaff review actually identified.

How does Head keep getting a job?

Check out his FC average
Head's FC average doesn't tell the full story. He was thrown into Shield cricket at 18 in a seriously dire Redbacks team, in hindsight that was clearly premature. Averaged a shade over 40 over the last few Shield seasons.

If he could learn to move his feet he has the potential to be a seriously good batsman.

I've said this a few times over the last couple months, but it's really funny how quickly everyone's forgotten about Chadd Sayers. Bloke finally got selected for a Test after years of Shield domination, then next tour was left out behind the likes of Doggett, now he's completely out of everyone's minds

It's really annoying the double standards at play in the selection process. Handscomb has done nothing to suggest he should be called up. He's made one century in 4 matches and averages 37 this season. Literally a dozen players have scored more than him.

Yet due to his one score he gets picked when Renshaw gets dropped after scoring a huge number off runs already this year. I mean if Renshaw had have made 11 more runs and scored a century would he be picked now too? Or is it just the favourites that get picked like that?

The more I think about out the more infuriated I become by the Langer favouritism. Handscomb and Mitch Marsh both should have no claim to a spot. 3/4 off Marsh's runs in the shield came in one innings on a dead track. He's not bowling well either.

The bowling selections are ok. I think Bird's time as permanent 12th man is over and short of a huge number of injuries he's probably not going to play again. But there are worse choices that Tremain and Siddle as backup options.

But fmd we're going to have:

Harris
Finch
Khawaja
Head/Handscomb
S Marsh
M Marsh
Paine

As our top 7. I can't think of a worse Australian top order in my lifetime. Absolutely horrendous.

The only time Renshaw was legitimately hard done by was when he was dropped after the India tour. Since then every time he was up for selection he's performed terribly in domestic cricket and didn't deserve to be picked.

Since Harris is probably a better bat than Labuschagne wasnt our top 7 last Test match worse?

Im happy with the Harris Head Tremain selections. They have performed in the Shield over the past few seasons.

But which other batsman in Australian history has that ever applied to? He literally misses out in a couple of shield games and the last year of scoring thousands of runs stops counting.

I don't mind Harris too much. He's been one of the reasons Victoria has performed well in the last few years.

I do mind Handscomb though. Legitimately does not deserve a place after being woefully out of form for so long. He's literally had one good innings and now he's back in the test side.

Mitch Marsh needs to string together multiple seasons of good batting. Every time he scores any runs he's back in the side. He had a worse UAE tour than Renshaw has had shield season and yet he's back in the side in the back of a century on a road where both sides scored 440+ in the first innings.

It's this ridiculous inconsistency of selection rules that I hate. Mitch Marsh gets a free pass the second he scores any runs at all. Burns/Renshaw get dropped for fun because Langer wants to keep Bancroft's place open, despite him averaging 30 at test match level with only 3 half centuries to his name over 7 tests. By comparison, Burns has 3 centuries and 4 half centuries and Renshaw has 1 century and 3 half centuries against tougher opposition in more alien conditions. Both Burns and Renshaw average more at both tests and first class cricket than Bancroft too.

The open favouritism and horse trading that goes on at the selection table is sickening and it needs to stop. At least Harris is a specialist opener.

As with rugby union in this country, I'm convinced that nothing will change with CA until (and it will happen) the national team is on the end of countless thrashings AND ratings fall off a cliff AND sponsors start walking

I simply can't get upset anymore with the overt favouritism shown to M (he averaging 26 with the bat) Marsh or selection of guys like Siddle (at best, the 3rd best seamer for his state) or blatant hypocrisy when it comes to criteria (Maxi is basically ineligible due to lack of FC but Finch was chosen on white ball form)

It's a cluster **** and with Yes Men like Langer & Roberts in charge, there's no hope for change

Oz cricket will be ****ed for years IMO
