Sangakkara gets Sanga etc etc. I think if your name is more than eight or nine letters you get an abbreviated version or first name or nickname or whatever.

A solution to problem that never should have existed.

They have things like that for quite a few players. Seem to recall Hazlewood showing up as 'Josh', Pietersen is 'KP' and I'm pretty sure I've seen some others which appear to just be nicknames. Some are just blank occasionally too
Why don't they use the trusty old shortened name with a dot method like the rest of the world.

Bairstow showing his good form continues. Mad how we can't find a regular place for a guy who scores as heavily as he does.
There's what, 2 free spots for specialist non-opening batsmen? In that case, which of Root and Morgan does he displace.

Saw he was opening for Yorkshire, so is there an argument for him going in in place of the overhyped Roy?

Yeah, thinking about it, it is those with longer names that seem to be the ones affected. Tbh, I don't get why they can't do what Ceefax used to and abbreviate Pietersen, for example to "P'tersen" or something instead of 'KP', imo using nicknames or first names looks unprofessional. Though I suppose the full name is on the scorecard right next to it, and using apostrophes makes them sound like vulcans

That is possibly the place he could take but on the eve of a tournament I wouldn't do it. Just making the point that we have never really had the luxury of leaving a quality player out in the past.

There just doesn't seem to be any consistency as to how they it. If you look at the bowlers, there's Rabada, Parnell, Maharaj, Morris, and Morne. That's despite Morkel being no longer than any of the other surname. :confused1

Tbh, I'll take 153 after being 20-6 after 5 overs. Really thought our lowest ever ODI score was on the cards. SA choked imo

Might be because there's also Albie, but it's been yonks since he was around. Maybe it's just cricinfo.

Albie did occur to me, but it would seem a little ridiculous to switch to Morne's first name purely to avoid confusion with someone who hasn't played at this level for five years. And if for some reason they really wanted to do that then why not M Morkel? Even with the space it's still just as many characters as Bairstow.
