No sane person gives many ****s about ODIs
That's why I suggested making this test only.. since it's supposed to be all formats odi performance is one way of differentiating players. I'm thinking rate players 75% based on their test record and 25% odi. And replace with FC for test for those who didn't play enough.

Definitely one of my faves, and the greatest offie Australia have had, but I think all of our greatest spinners have been the 6 leggies I chose.

I guess on another day I could replace Benaud with Trumble...

Additionally, Bert Ironmonger might be my favourite cricketer of all time, and I had to leave him out as well because I think this has to be based on test performance to be fair.

IN

Hugh Trumble - probably the first great bowler from Australia, along with Spofforth. Not entirely convinced he was a spinner, like
Clarrie Grimmett - There is a whole display for him at the cricket museum in Wellington. He gets more attention there than the majority of actual NZ players. Must have been a bit good
Bert Ironmonger - Having an international career entire post mid life crisis is a new way to go about things. Kept up with the very best with the ball while he played
Bill O'Reilly - Best leg spinner of all time
Richie Benaud - allroundering aside he has one of the best away records in the game
Shane Warne - not bad for a fat bloke

OUT

Jack Saunders - I could look him up but eh
Arthur Mailey - I don't remember why I'm meant to rate him
Ashley Mallett - did a job, not enough at this level
Chuck Fleetwood-Smith - I thank the Chuck FleetwoodSmiths for introducing me to him. 1/298 not the best look though
Jack Iverson - See Mailey
Stuart MacGill - tough call between him and Benaud, went with the bloke who won more series for his side though

Vernon Philander

OUT

Peter Heine - no idea
Trevor Goddard - average aside he was pretty much just a sedate opener who bowled a bit
Fanie De Villiers - bounced Devon Malcolm like a muppet
Craig Matthews - nope
Jacques Kallis - is an actual bowler, more so than people want to admit, but come on
Mahkaya Ntini - good bowler who looked completely spent when he wasn't in favourable circumstances
Morne Morkel - king of taking 2/60
Garth Le Roux - tough call between him and van der Bijl but the latter tends to be talked up more often

I wanted to leave out big Vernon, but in the end it's weird to pick Le Roux or Van der Bijl ahead of Philander based on FC cricket, when Philander tore up domestic cricket for years before he got picked.

Harsh on Ntini and Morkel for all their wickets, but that's some competition

Jacques Kallis? I think that any sane batsman would much rather face Kallis than Adcock and Heine. But Kallis did take a lot of wickets I guess.
