In Wellington, working on the Terrace, as I do, you see international cricketers wandering down from the James Cook Hotel to the stadium indoor nets fairly regularly. Walked past KW last year while he was talking to a member of the coaching staff by St Andrew's on the Terrace and nearly wet myself in my excitement.

And yup, just saw Milne and Santner wandering along the Terrace (from the direction they were coming from I think they're staying at the Bolton Hotel this year, rather than the James Cook).

Dear Wellington City Council representative,

Could you please provide me with the exact the height of the Bolton Hotel building? I need a reference point for something. Please also enclose the exact colour shade and brand of the paint used. Your assistance in this matter may result in a valuable scientific breakthrough.

Kind regards,

T.H.

Stayed at the James Cook a few times btw. And as for Dunedin, last time I was there I was staying in the same hotel as the Warriors, Broncos, Chiefs and Highlanders. You have no idea how many heights I estimated that week.

When did I last post about Sobers? I hardly think I'm the only poster on the forum who gets a bit hung up regarding players I think are over/underrated.

As for height, well, why is that one of the first pieces of information displayed about someone when you google them? Why is this information routinely recorded and used as a fundamental piece of biographical information in sports in particular? It's one of the defining physical characteristics of a human being, has as much impact (this is just one example of why it's a big deal) on your earning potential as your gender or skin colour....again, I think it's disingenuous to act like it's not something people are interested in.

As for obsessed, it's pretty obvious I'm playing a role now and embracing the position of "height-obsessed guy on CW".

In all seriousness, I think it's just something that stemmed from being a sports/stats buff and general pedant as a kid. Height and weight were always something listed alongside runs/tries/goals and I guess I never lost that child-like enthusiasm for deifying my sporting heroes and wanting to know every little bit of info about them. Since height and size generally is something which is often particularly relevant to sport and also often hopelessly misreported, I guess it fits the criteria for something my pedantic mind would be intrigued by.

(sorry for way too serious response btw)

I have never seen height discrimination. I have seen someone be promoted due to his deep voice though.

Hendrix, you and I both know those are readily available and only require a cursory googling. The latest and greatest suggested a fairly modest average of 5.1 inches iirc

Newspapers saying Tastle's cooked his goose and is now back with Canterbury preparing for the Ford Trophy finals. Sodhi/Santner/NcCullum will be the three spinners taken to India.

Seems a bit too hasty to me. I wasn't entirely convinced about his inclusion, but surely he deserved more than one chance to prove himself.
