The pitch aids spin. But I don't think Moeen Ali will create difficulties for SA middle-order. That's not only because Amla and AB are good players of spin, but also because one month ago they spent sleepless nights planning to counter a much better off-spinner on much more spin-friendly tracks. When you prepare for a tougher exam, taking easy exams feel much more easier.

If you're just coming back from a series where you have been torn apart and had your innards put on display by spin bowling, the mere sight of a slow bowler may be enough to put you out of your zone.

Moeen's got plenty of scars he can expose here.

Good day of cricket and we probably got the better of it after being sent in in those conditions. Hope the sun shines and we bat well tomorrow and get 350+ on the board and put SA under pressure.

Happy with that days play. Annoying that Taylor got out before close but it is always a threat with his technique, he really changed the momentum of our innings. Compton doing his job as well, keep grinding and finding a way to score runs. 280-320 is about par here I think, hope we can get around 350+. Tomorrow with sun out should be best conditions for batting.

Just caught the action in the final session now.. What's the take on the pitch so far?
Pitch is very slow. Only bowler to really get anything out of it was Steyn. So good to have the champ back. Piedt got a bit of spin but think that was more from dampness then the pitch really aiding spin.

Think its pretty even, first hour tomorrow is crucial if SA can knock over 2 before the new ball they are right on top, if stokes and compton get through to the new ball they will be on top.
