So what do people think should be done about Morkel? He keeps on flattering to deceive doesn't he? He will have a good spell or even good series every now and then but he can never sustain it for long against good opposition. And he is at his worst when his team needs him most, tough fourth innings against good teams. Who are the promising pace prospects ? I remember Tsosobe looked quite decent against India and IIRC some new bowler did well against Sri Lanka recently.

Tahir is also a difficult case. I think he has some potential but he probably needs a couple of years to hone his bowling and become more consistent. Right now he is not good enough but does SA have a better spinner? Boje obviously brings something with the bat but I don't think he is really a better bowler.
Eh? I'm not a Morkel fan but it's a bit strange to go after him here. He bowled really well in this match.

He was pretty crap in the fourth innings as he has been on several occasions before. It's been a major reason why SA have struggled to win series. And if one or two catches had been taken by England it could have cost them this series win also.

Morkel has a pretty much ideal set-up. He often bowls in seam-friendly conditions, his batsmen often pile up the runs, he has excellent bowlers who create pressure at the other end, he has excellent fielders. He still averages only 30.

Playing home/away to most teams, or at least on all continents might be a start...
You're just itching to tell us that he "hasn't proved himself on the subcontinent", aren't you.
I suspect you're in for a nasty surprise when he gets to India. This guy is really special; in fact there is very little in it between him and Steyn in terms of overall effectiveness. I'm feeling pretty good about my defence of him after his first few tests when others were declaring he would prove to be a flash in the pan.

broad rested from the odi's. Is there an official t20 world cup thread yet? doesn't appear to be- someone should get that going

ODI Series squad- Cook Anderson Bairstow Bell Bopara Bresnan Dernbach Finn Kieswetter Morgan Patel Swann Trott Woakes

England squad for SA T20's and World Cup - Broad Bairstow Bopara Bresnan Briggs Buttler Dernbach Finn Hales Kieswetter Lumb Morgan Patel Swann Wright

**** me recalls for lumb and wright. shows how bare the cupboard is. lumb **** me - he's had a good season but he's so short of international quality it's embarrasing.

Well played to the Proteas. having wached the series, its fair to say that the english bowling aint as good as people were thinkin. Broad for me was not as good as people were hyping him up. and now that i think about it, the so called bench strength in the english set up was nowhere to be seen. The super talented Cook was shown to be fallible after all. Moral of the post? dont over hype players.

Sorry but ****ing useless sadsack Bopara's selection is infinitely worse. At least Lumb will probably get a quick 15-20 before getting out. Wright generally does well if he gets past 0 and can bowl decent yorkers. Bopara is worse than a total waste of space, he's an utter liability in T20. Ignoring whatever the hell has been going on lately how can they have not noticed that he scores at a such a pathetic rate in T20? Even at domestic level he's slow, at international level he's a joke.

Pick anyone but him. Anyone.

Wright is absolutely fair enough. In fact if you're going on the best English t20 players available Owais Shah has to be in the somewhere, has scored runs all over the world. Lumb is just ridiculous.

Wright and Lumb are decent t20 players, can't really see the shock. Shah lets you down so much in the field and running, it's just not worth considering.

Hope JB get's the gloves over CK, in the ODIs, and hope Woakes plays most of the games.

So basically the reserves going by the last T20I are Briggs, Bresnan, Lumb and Wright. Bresnan/Wright are realistic options to come in for Patel. Given the squad it seems the only person who can get rid of sadsack is Bopara himself.

lol cook super talented lol. Cook is always crap at home and is going to have technical problems his whole career. He's similiar to Smith. poor technically but is good mentally and finds a way to score runs. Don't think many people have called Cook super talented on an international level.

Anyone see the Flower interview with Mr Tomato on SS News?

Think KP is a goner unless he really grovels.
Well, he actually said he wanted him to speak f2f rather than through intermediaries, which would seem a basic requirement, ya know for a human.

I definitely think Wright is a bit of a crap pick with so many allrounders already in the squad - whenever he's played cricket for England in the last few years it's been as a specialist batsman which is absurd IMO, even in T20 - but it's one we can live with. Lumb, though. Jeez.

Flower getting in behind Strauss some more from the sounds of it.

Sick of this selective sentimentality. Finding it pretty difficult to get behind England at the moment with KP-gate (badly handled and it's pretty obvious there have been leaks aplenty). The endless selection of Bopara and Strauss which is utterly devoid of any merit, meanwhile guys like Onions get royally screwed over. The resident batsmen seem to have an unlimited licence to play utterly brainless cricket, without any chance of being dropped. Meanwhile the guys who are under the most pressure to perform are the newbies like Taylor and Bairstow. The pressure should be on the rest to perform, they've been absolutely rank for the past year. Really am sick of it. The fairness in the system seems to have gone.
