He has vast amounts of talent yet there are numerous problems that seem to be holding him back, a number of those are natural just because of his age/inexperience. The others such as attitude are areas he really must improve, he must appreciate that when he goes to the middle he is batting for his team, not to show everyone what Umar Akmal can do with a few flashy strokes and the inevitable tame dismissal.
Of course this is part of being young. He believes he can just bat his way and that in itself will be enough for him to be successful, but he has to learn about the variety of situations he bats in and apply himself accordingly. He has a good variety of quality strokes that he can execute, he can change the tempo of an innings when required, but he has to find the right tempo throughout an innings in order to score match defining scores.
I think he can have a big impact in Test cricket, though there is part of me that thinks if things are not going as he would have hoped, then he'll just concentrate on earning money in T20 cricket and playing List A cricket. I want to see a real hunger from him to improve in the longer format and have a desire to be a successful Test cricketer for his country. He has the potential to average in excess of 45, it depends on how quickly he learns/grows up, if he does at all.
