Trouble in the English camp : Pietersen Vs Moores!?

Cricket's Phil Neale played for Lincoln City for years but was never a football manager - I think you are probably thinking of Phil Neal, who I remember as a Liverpool stalwart who, so far as I am aware, has no significant cricketing history nor a degree in Russia or indeed anything else but did manage Bolton or Burnley or some such Lancashire team
Phil Neal, the Liverpool/Bolton/England one, is a grade A ****.

I suspect you are correct - IIRC Chris Marples did combine the two but I'm not convinced you could describe him as doing so "successfully"
Tony Cottey played football for Swansea City, and cricket for Glamorgan and another county the name of which escapes me. His cricket was much more successful than his football.

Yup - Cottey is a couple of years younger than Chris Marples - were his performances for Sussex that forgettable Mr Z ?

Haha, and like Phil Neale and Phil Neal, not to be confused with the West Ham Utd forward Tony Cottee.

Rumour has it, Pietersen has said something about having unfinished business as England Captain.

A lot of people don't realise - or sometimes forget - that Ian Botham played professional football for S****horpe United. On his debut he came on as a sub when they were 3-0 down and in true Botham style they ended up drawing 3-3. He played about a dozen times in all and played a few games for Yeovil (before they were a Football League Club).

EDIT  at the over eager filter.

Scunthorpe has been a problem on the CW filter for many years now. Was a time of course when nightwatchman was the same.

KP forced to quit.

"He [Morris] said they [ECB] had had an emergency board meeting and they had accepted my resignation," he told the News of the World. "I said: 'Excuse me?!' They said: 'We've accepted your resignation.' I said on what basis has it been accepted? They had no answer. Next, I received an email from the ECB saying: 'Your resignation is of immediate effect'."

Cricinfo’s accompanying photo is rather apt…

Yup, the 3rd England captain to play for S****horpe Utd in answer to the olde trivia question.

Guess he should've thought twice before tabling his "I won't captain on if".

The ECB giving new life to the old piss-up in a brewery cliche.

Someone leaked Pietersen's e-mail to the press so someone's head should roll for it. If this had all stayed in house we'd be rid of Moores (which I still judge to be a good thing in the long run) and we'd not have publicly humiliated our best player.

I think Strauss will be a better captain from a tactical point of view, but not to such an extent that it would compensate for another KP flounce.

ECB exonerates Pietersen for leak

From The Sporting Life.

Dennis Amiss, the ECB vice-chairman says,

"We don't believe Kevin Pietersen leaked the information, we understand his frustration at it being leaked by other parties."

Almost makes one feel slightly sorry for KP.

and the irony is with no coach Strauss is going to end up getting the kind of power and control that Pietersen wanted, at least for this tour.

I think whichever way you look at it, Pietersen has a huge ego problem, and atm this might feel like a bitter pill to swallow for the English team and fans, but they should be happy that Pietersen' reign ended at this, yeah one can say that its sad that the information got leaked and Pietersen was humiliated like this publicly, but lets be honest this is a issue Pietersen has himself created.

If the sole reason for Pietersen wanting Moores to be booted out is difference in opinion, then i am sorry to say Pietersen would never have lasted as captain of the side for too long even if he would have got away with this incident not getting blow up, like it did, because from i understand Pietersen wanted to run the side on his terms and probably wanted his players and his support staff to behave like yes-men, but sadly that's is not how things in team set-up work.

The implication in Simon Wilde's piece in the Sunday Times is that Vaughan was the source of the leak

.... and I certainly didn't know that Pieterson has in the past obtained a restraining order against Jason Gallian
