if only Head's parents had called him Richard
Went to school with a Richard Head

Poor kid was of Hungarian origin and his parents changed their surname to Head and gave him an anglo christian name

Would have copped less stick if it stayed as something like Attila Hedonovich

amazing Head leaves NZ in awe

Blackcaps give Head amazing performance

to think I'm going to be teaching kids in less than a week
Think of the cumulative potential once de Kock becomes SA captain

Head gives de Kock a night to remember

de Kock determined to get Head

Kane Richardson hasn't played a game at State / Franchise level since his injury, so I don't think he is that important where he'd suddenly make the national team after a game or two in South Australian club cricket.

FTR, I like our bowling unit. Stanlake is obviously the most debatable selection, however I don't necessarily think someone like Richardson who's main skill his death bowling, is needed so much with this squad.
That is not correct. He played the first half of the Shield and was imo one of the best performed bowlers. Not sure why he did not play in the BBL...another injury?

I would have deduced that death bowling is definitely one of our weak spots in limited overs cricket. So Richardson being a specialist is a must.. Faulkner is probably our best death bowler. as is Hastings.Hazlewood does not death bowl. Starc can be a lethal death bowler on his day. But Richardson is a proven death and opening bowler. I would also have him in the T20 side.

Haha what are you talking about? How can you say that I'm wrong and then ask why he didn't play BBL.. He played two games of BBL and then got injured. I said he hasn't played at state level since his injury so a player at his level was never going to get selected for Australia at this time.

How could he play at state level if there was no Shield cricket to play..injury or no injury? I was not aware he had been injured during BBL. Not long term I hope as he one of this countries best limited overs death bowlers.

He couldn't but that's my point. He isn't going to suddenly play for Australia unless he got back for the Strikers or SACA. I like Richardson for the record, he needed a strong BBL year to be in the selectors mind though. In saying that, the selectors have picked a few players recently on a hunch, the Heazlett selection is still very hard to justify.

With the squad they have, i'd probably play...

Guptill
Latham+
KW 7
Taylor
Munro/Broom
Neesham 6
de Grand 5
Santner 4
Southee/Henry 2
Ferguson 3
Boult 1

For Australia I would go:

1. Finch
2. Head 5*
3. Marsh
4. Handscomb
5. Maxwell
6. Wade
7. Faulkner 4
8. Starc 1
9. Cummins 3
10. Zampa 6
11. Hazlewood 2

12 Heazlett

*Ok, I wouldn't go Head before Zampa, but if past performances are any indicator, it will happen.

Not sure you'd be wanting excess overs of spin at Eden park.

I hope NZ play for Faulkner's slower ball & adjust if he slides the odd quicker one through. The fact he doesn't seem to be able to get his quicker one like he was in the '15 WC makes quite a difference. Set up for the a slower ball and look to exploit those short square boundaries is the ticket.

Nothing like waking up and reading the headline 'Wade's to lead in Smith's absence' to get your day off to a bad start.
One day the Australian captaincy is going to be given to a decent bloke, and the world will tilt off its axis.

I still remember fondly Wade holing out to Adam Milne on the boundary in last year's decider (?) and acting like being caught on the boundary made him the unluckiest bloke in the world. Hopefully he joins Mike Hussey in the CH hall of infamy.

Not keen on Ferguson. Absolute spray can, no ball merchant. Southee and Henry can both play.

For me it's Latham Guptill KW Taylor Broom de Grand Neesham Santher Southee Henry Boult. Tossed up between the Colins but felt we needed another bowling option. Plus he's a better death option than Henry.

Batsman short, hopefully one of the quicks (or Zampa) will sit out each game and Heazlett plays.

For Munro vs. CdG for the number 6 spot, I think we need the stronger batsman against Australia. Starc/Cummins/Hazlewood is ridiculous, and without Warner/Smith, you're a chance of putting in a decent bowling effort with our specialists anyway.

I guess it does look like we are a batsman / half a batsman short. I suppose we could play Stoinis instead of Zampa if the size of the field really is a problem for Zamps.

BTW, good on Steve Smith for missing out this tour so we could take part in MKR.

We have a decent bloke as Captain and the world IS off it's axis because no one has noticed.

edit - the real captain - not wade

CDG will be killed at Eden Park, and I don't think his batting is strong enough for the Aussies either.. I'd put faith into Neesh to bowl 6-7 overs, and Kane to get the others under his belt. A real shame Anderson and Munro aren't bowling.

Guppy
Latham
KW
Taylor
Broom
Munro
Neesh
Santner
Henry
Southee
Boult

Would toss up Ferguson over Henry, both have potential to get plastered. Henry has more experience, and Lachie has that point of difference..
