Australia's Test Squad for England and West Indies

Is it weird that I have doubts that Johnson should be in our starting XI in the Ashes? His record in England is generally pretty poor, and I think their conditions should suit Hazlewood and Starc like a glove.....

On the other hand, he did pretty much single-handedly destroy England in 2013/14.....

Faulkner is easily good enough to play as a specialist Test bowler, but it's correct saying he is behind Harris/Johnson/Starc/Hazelwood and possibly Pattinson (he would be a much better selection than Cummins IMO, on bowling alone)
possibly pattinson? a fit and healthy patto is comfortably our third best bowler imo

'09 wasn't great but its certainly not enough to cause a drop 5 years later. After NZ 2010 Johnson was bowling **** everywhere.

To be entirely honest I don't really like horses for courses outside of balance changes (i.e 2 spinners). Even then you really have to make sure your 2nd spinner is actually good.

In the long run, absolutely. I've always rated Pattinson ahead of Hazlewood, Starc (until recently) and Cummins. But he's had a shocking time lately with injuries and form in the Shield final.

Is there anywhere like the Kippax youtube channel where I can watch Australian domestic cricketers do things?

My only worry for the Australian attack is their into the deck approach might struggle in the West Indies. The West Indian batting for the most part shouldn't be good enough to take advantage but Chanderpaul, Bravo, Brathwaite and possibly the improved Ramdin could cause some hurt on the slower decks there if Johnson and Haze bang it in and find no joy. Pattinson and Starc are probably more naturally suited to bowling there.

Lyon and Fawad have gotta stand up just in case.

i've come round to faulkers a lot but socials point that he always delivers is non existent in red ball cricket

back of the hand slower balls in the powerplay and an uncanny ability to slog balls over midwicket for 6 in clutch situations have absolutely no correlation to away ashes or subcontinent cricket, the two kinds we still have a long way to go on

imo he's behind mmarsh, watson and henriques as a fast bowling all rounder
Watto & Henriques are batsmen who bowl a bit whilst, until recently, MMarsh was pretty ordinary in both disciplines and has literally been picked on potential as he did nothing to earn a spot

Some of the comments on here re Faulkner are just ridiculous

Q: Why does he have such a good fc bowling record?

A: Because his home ground is Bellerive

Q: If Bellerive is such a good bowling wicket then how does he have such a good fc batting record?

A: Because <insert any excuse here>

The guy is one of the top 5 odi players in the world and the chances of him not being a successful test player are rather remote IMO

Agreed and lets not forget while his test career is only one match old, he did take six wickets at an average of 16 and got a few twenties in the same match. Much worse test debuts than that.

The important point is that he isn't currently good enough to bat top 6 or be a frontline bowler. So there isn't a spot for him unless we need a 2nd spinner for a match and want him to add an extra option just in case.

In 30 test matches since he beginning of 2011, Watto has averaged 31 with the bat and has taken 32 wickets @ 35 with the ball

Watson has underperformed. Have Faulkner or Marsh done enough to replace him as a straight swap? I'd almost prefer an extra batsman but with the injuries our bowlers get it's risky.

He doesn't though?

Faulkner strikes me as someone who's just not good enough in either discipline to play Test cricket.

Little known fact about Faulkner: on the 2nd level of GoldenEye on the N64, where you start in the air conditioning vents, if you wait long enough you'll see a young James Faulkner running past practising his bowling action.

Faulkner is unfashionable but almost always gets the job done

He is the polar opposite of Watto

This is a genuine question: but why is Faulkner so disliked on this forum? I haven't followed all the discussions here but whenever I'm around there seems almost a disappointment if he does well (e.g. MOM for WC final). I'm genuinely interested as from where I stand he clearly has that X factor - not nec. for test selection yet but no reason to hate on the guy. Indeed, to revel in the promise. Anyway, interested if anyone feels like proffering a response.

Because apparently being a clutch player in limited overs is a terrible thing.
