Interesting to look at NZ batting SRs in the last 12 months (qual 200+ runs)

Didn't realize Guppy has been quite this horrible.

Was properly out of sorts in 2014, looked shot against South Africa. Now he just looks a little out of sorts.

18 (40) isn't that far from typical Guppy. I think with the two new balls it may even be the new "typical" Guppy.

Lol it's only taken Smithy a year to finally notice Guppy's struggling with his SR.

There's no doubt he's the player in the side who effectively gets a free ride to bat however he likes.

Don't think his SR today is that much of an issue. We're still going at 5 an over. If he had scored 3 or 4 boundaries in that 19 then it would be. But he is rotating the strike albeit somewhat ineffectively. Guptill is a liability when he scores 80% of his runs in boundaries and doesn't go over a strike rate of 80.

What do you think is a par-score on this. I probably wouldn't feel comfortable with anything less than 320.

Reasonable case to be made for Williamson being the best no. 3 in the world in the last 12 months....

Useful boundaries. You have to wonder whether he has a very inflated sense of self importance though. There's no way you should get as far as 19 (43). That's just straight up not caring about the pressure you're putting on your team.

We're not going to win a World Cup scoring 250, which if Gup is in for the amount of time he is today, is about our high water mark unless someone else goes nuts. Even the singles he does get, they're seemingly balls that happened to travel outside the circle or in a gap rather than pinpoint placement.

It must be frustrating as all hell to bat around. A strike rate of 65 over the last 12 months is absolutely horrid, especially when coupled with his average. Speaks volumes for our depth, and the amount of in the bank credit we're prepared to give him, that he's still in the side.

Na rubbish. Non-existent pressure. When the two blokes at the other end are striking at 100 without playing a risky shot you don't need to play a risky shot just to artificially raise your own strike rate so you look good.

Guptill is looking to build an innings and partnerships, definitely a big team man. If it was a different situation he'd have tried to hoick it down the ground a bit earlier. I think he's been told by pretty much everyone in the squad and even half the commentators that he needs to find form before the world cup.

Looks like he is starting to fire a bit too.

lol, You know Guppy's completely losing his head when he starts holding the willo0w part of the bat as opposed to the handle.

He's in the 'I'm just *** sick of myself ' mood now. All part of the mysterious evolution of a Guppy innings.

Could be a blessing if he doesn't lose it completely but has a Greatbatch '92 moment of hitting himself into form.

Bowling plans to him are so obvious too. Just bowl any spinner or any bowler who can hit back of a length.

We're not going to score 250 at 50/3 either.

And I think we all know that the longer Guptill stays in the faster he scores. He has built plenty of big innings the same way, and that regardless of what I say, if he continues to strike at 40 at the 25th over mark, he'll feel the pressure to score faster.

NZ and Guptill aren't settling for 250.

This isn't a T20, you have time to actually build an innings, particularly when you back the guys in the lower order to up the run rate if you can leave a platform.

This is a slightly odd comment. We have a RR of 5.3 after 17 overs, which strikes me as an excellent platform to push on to 300+ (as we repeatedly did against India last year when Guptill was nurdling it at an SR of 60-odd).
