The Indian Supreme Court today gave clear "instructions" (although the court never uses the words till they pass an order which could be tomorrow) to the BCCI on what they suggested as the BCCI should do
1. Srinivasan should not be the President of the BCCI
2. Gavaskar should replace Srinivasan as interim President
3. CSK and RR should be out of IPL 7
4. No India Cements Employee should be involved in BCCI in any capacity
The court will pass an order on this tomorrow if BCCi does not come forward and agree to these "suggestions" by then.
Already one can see former presidents coming out and speaking of the rot that is afflicting Indian cricket and the "great opportunity" we now have to clean up Indian Cricket. Of course, all or almost all of them were quiet and did nothing for years when the issue has been raging and NS has been brazening it out - with their support really.
As I write Gavaskar is talking on the TV to answer the pointed question on whether he would take up the job. He said clearly that if the SC asked him to do so he would and it would be an honour. He added, of course, that no one has a choice anyway if the SC asks them to take the job. Nonsense - that last bit. Everyone can respectfully decline for personal reasons and Gavaskar knows that. But it is perhaps understand for Gavaskar to throw his hat in the ring quite willingly while keeping an eye open for the reaction of BCCI and its current bosses in view of his very lucrative contract with them.
Of course Gavaskar can handle the job but whether he is the best man for the job is a question many would consider debatable.
