What a great opportunity for both these young English bats. Wonder if either or maybe both can seize it and go on and make a big one..........could cement one of them a place in the side for the summer.

it needs to warm up a few degrees and the lacquer needs to come off a touch. Will probably start swinging in a few overs.

Sometimes takes 6-8 overs to do anything over here, once the lacquer is off then it moves. If nothing is happening after 12 overs you should start to worry as it a ball that won't.

theres been the odd bit of swing since the start actually, just not when the ball was in the right areas

Boult is medium fast isn't he? Sure slightly quicker than Southee but I wouldn't call him out and out fast.

Well fast-medium for sure. Its a fairly arbitrary wording but there is a difference for mine. And don't listen to the speed gun, he'll be clocked at the same pace as Anderson and Broad, who are unquestionably fast-medium.

Only been a day and a bit, admittedly, but on first impressions Watling looks the best keeper to have come over here in a long time. Would never guess he was only part-time until recently.

Yes Watling has been impressive, particularly on some of the wide takes.

Southee just needs to keep probing away like last over, but preferably just a little closer to off. Wagner seems to be bowling nicely but only getting gentle inswing into the middle of Root's bat.
