What happens if the bus is running late?

Ponting's technical deficiencies are exaggerated. Amongst the modern day greats he and lara had close to copybook techniques. His problems against spin, specifically in sub-continental conditions are more due to a failure to adopt in a very basic way to the different conditions that prevail here.

In the sub-continent, specifically against spin, one needs to play very late. As late as is possible. The same used to be true in England during the days of uncovered wickets and stickies. This is not just to account for the slow nature of surfaces and square turners but much more for the uneven bounce and varying lateral movement. here, either you step to the ball and take it on the half volley or play it off the surface and very late.

You can get wickets in Australia where the ball will turn and bounce but their is more consistency and one can decide a tad earlier about one's stroke. It is the same reason why the spinners who bowl a bit shorter in India are less successful. It gives the batsman a slightly more of an opportunity to play the ball off the surface and get more time to do so.

Inability or failure to adapt (or even realising early enough what he should change) is not the same as a technical deficiency.

No way did Lara have a copybook technique ftr. He got into good positions but you wouldn't teach a young kid to bat like that. That just added to his greatness.

That was because BCCI was mad that ECB didn't allow IPL teams to play exhibition matches in Ireland and Scotland. It didn't have anything to do with not allowing players to practice in Indian conditions. If that were true, there'd be no foreign players in the IPL. There are plenty of legitimate gripes against the BCCI....

With the English bid I said: Let us be brief. If you give back the Falkland Islands, which belong to us, you will get my vote. They then became sad and left
