My current Test World XI

1. Matthew Hayden
2. Kumar Sangakkara (wk)
3. Ricky Ponting (c)
4. Michael Hussey
5. Kevin Pieterson
6. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
7. Daniel Vettori
8. Brett Lee
9. Stuart Clark
10. Dale Steyn
11. Muttiah Muralidaran

A well balanced side in my opinion, I nearly put Mendis in for Murali, but he hasn't got the experience as of yet.
Sangakarra doesnt even keep for Sri Lanka now :)

So do any more people think Flintoff is looking like reclaiming his place as one of the world's premier quicks?
As you (with a bit of help from me) said a few months ago, it was always pretty likely if he were to regain full fitness that he would soon be added back to the team of this thread (or at that point they were still pesky recurring repetition threads).

Well done Gelman for emphasising it.

Doesn't neccessarily mean he couldn't for an Eclectic XI though. He retains his wicketkeeping skills (we presume).

For instance, I'd not be at all sorry to have Sachin Tendulkar opening in a multi-team ODI XI, but I always wanted him at four for India all career.

Likewise was never a fan of Lara opening in ODIs for West Indies, but Tendulkar and Lara opening for a multi-team XI would be far from the worst idea.

That was basically the same as the one that I was going to name as it is a very strong side, the only changes that I would consider making to the side would probably be Stuart Clark in for Fredrick Flintoff, 'tis all. There are soo many options out there today though that it is hard to make up a world XI side. Maybe the other otion to that side is Kevin Pietersen in for Kumar Sangakkara seeing as though MS Dhoni is in charge of the gloves anyways..

The balance of this team is assisted by the fact that you've chosen twelve players.
Noone told Jamee that the supersub rule was abolished and never actually used in Tests

Smith
Hayden
Ponting
Pietersen*
Chanderpaul
Sangakarra
McCullum+
Flintoff
Lee
Steyn
Muralitharan

Seems very similar to everyone else's, perhaps a reflection on cricket currently

Am still taking Mitch over Doug but if the latter continues his current form into the ashes then that might change.

Would have no issue with Clarke over Jayawardene but he has just scored a ridiculous amount of runs in recent years that I could not ignore him.

Watson not far away either, if it was not for Kallis I would have included him, good case for Gambhir as well.

If its an alltime list, would look something like this I suppose:
