*Official* India in Sri Lanka 2010 - Tests

Our much acclaimed batting order doesn't seem that strong any more with aging players in the team.
To be fair the pitch had something in it in the first day as well as the 3rd day. It was our bowling which was very bad.

Then the pitch started turning even more and Srilanka had better bowling than us.

Harsh to come to that sort of a conclusion after just one game. Many of those batsman have proved themselves time and time again.

But they are aging and India's batting seems too dependent on Sehwag atm. I would keep Tendulkar out of it but Dravid, Laxman, I have my doubts. Then there is the unproven Yuvraj (whom I still back to make a test career out of it, ftr).

I dont think they're dependant on him. It appears that way because he dominates the bowling better than the rest of them. Its been a similar scenario with Dilshan for Sri Lanka recently. Everyone else appears incompetent but looking at the Sri Lankan first innings, thats clearly not the case.

You still have Gambhir who has been in great form in the last 1-2 years and the best keeper batsman in the world in Dhoni. Dravid and Laxman aren't at the peak of their powers but they're still fairly solid. Only weak link is Yuvraj.

Dravid since 2004 -

Not been all that special -

year 2004 12 18 3 946 270 63.06 2226 42.49 2 4 3 122 3 view innings
year 2005 8 12 0 640 135 53.33 1404 45.58 2 4 1 82 1 view innings
year 2006 12 22 4 1095 146 60.83 2591 42.26 3 7 0 127 1 view innings
year 2007 10 19 2 606 129 35.64 1450 41.79 1 3 0 86 1 view innings
year 2008 15 28 2 805 136 30.96 2085 38.60 2 4 2 108 0 view innings
year 2009 6 10 1 747 177 83.00 1537 48.60 2 5 0 97 4 view innings

Laxman -

year 2007 8 14 5 496 112* 55.11 1028 48.24 1 3 0 61 0 view innings
year 2008 15 27 4 1086 200* 47.21 2136 50.84 2 7 2 121 0 view innings
year 2009 6 9 2 471 124* 67.28 953 49.42 1 5 1 70 0 view innings
year 2010 3 4 2 241 143* 120.50 440 54.77 1 1 0 23 0

Has been pretty good but whether that will carry on is doubtful. I would persist with Dravid and Laxman till South Africa and then let them go.

I must say I am very impressed with Sanga's field setting in this test so far...

Even middled shot finds fielders on regular occassions and that puts hell lot of pressure on the batters!

Mahela Jayawardene has taken 75 catches off Muralidharan! What a combo...

Previously it was hold by Taylor & Warne.

Any other such pair???

It is not weak, I am not saying that. But it is not that strong as it is made out to be.

I have this feeling that Murali wont be able to cross the magical 800 figure....

Will he do the Imran and postpone his retirement for 1-2 more games? :p
