My ODI Batting Rankings

This type of stuff has been done many times before but I threw all the data into a formula I liked that incorporated everything apart from the result of games.

Here are the results for careers of players that have played in 2008 (min 20 ODIs).

Im sure people will argue but it cant be too far wrong when Tendulkar tops the list and Chris Martin is bottom :D

What do our immediate senses tell us about this list. Yellow is yuck and there is a lot at the top.
Decent enough but some of these positions are a bit iffy.

Nice colour coding. Makes interesting reading.

Quickly shows why certain teams do well.

Seems to be a pretty good system you have developed as most postions seem reasonably accurate. I was suprised but pleased to see Jamie How as high as 15th!

what do you get if you remove the condition of having played in 2008 and if you increase the minimum matches to 50?

I'd work it personally out since the start of 2007 as any form since then is irrelevant to current playing standard. Against the top 8 only and I'll let this list go till I hit a guy from Bangers or something.

How and Butt a bit high I reckon, neither have done that much at ODI level on the whole.

I dont know how this works but Robin Uthappa (at 42) above some pretty useful players here.

Same with Misbah Ul Haq (7 career 50's and a highest score of 79 not out) being five places above Flintoff who has 24 50's and 5 centuries.

I suspect averages have a high weightage here.

Not really. Though a difference in average of 8 will make a difference. As will the more prominent role Misbah plays in the line up than Flintoff

He only used matches from '07 onwards, when Flintoff's been injured a lot and Misbah's hit form.

Shocked to see Dhoni down at 12th, would myself have him up in the top five, although evidently stats may not be kind to him.

Struggled in England and World Cup. The resurgence started post him taking over captaincy. Also hundreds against minnows dont count I guess.

You are right with the first part, but I have included all innings.

The rankings are not an assessment of their form right now but an assessment of their ability to produce across their career and consistently score runs.

More about their career body of work (though obviously some careers have been longer than others but that isnt taken into consideration which makes Tendulkars reign even more impressive) than their current form.

EDIT- Can a mod use Athlai's colour coded list in the original post. Its a great addition

Dhoni hasn't performed as well as the hype would make you feel.
