England conundrum amuses Siddle

The other issue with England trying to calling back these vetrans into the side for a one-off test is this gives the Australian side tremendous confidence boost, and gives the guys in the group a feeling that they have really made England desperate.

No doubt its a bit of desperate situation for the English side, but their was no need to make it so obvious, they should have just quietly gone in with form players like Key and Trott as replacements for Bopara and Bell, but in this scenario by bringing in likes of Tresco and Ramps into the equation, they have given their opponents a bit of mental edge going into the next test.

On TV, so people will be at least watching and it was only last year that Ramps threw his toys at the pram when a Sky cameraman got 'too close' to him.
& let's remember, televised runs count double or even treble in times of crisis, which is pretty much English cricket's default mode anyway.

I expect an intense 30-odd from Ramps scored at about 50 runs per 100 balls.

It's a pro40 game so it is for all uses and purposes, utterly irrelevant.

Norwood's on Fire
It's not completely useless anyway, as it's not Ramps' ability anyone is doubting but rather whether he can handle pressure. Televised game during a massive clamour for his selection? Could tell us quite a lot, IMO.

Sidebottom putting in an effort here.

EDIT: What are Blackwell's selection chances like?

Near zero, despite in actuality probably being more effective with the ball than Donkey Panesar in terms of taking wickets on a turner. Don't think his batting would translate well to Test cricket.

Should mention that Sidearse has 3-21 off 13 overs I suppose. Bell and Trott could be having another bat tonight.

Sidebottom won’t feature. Game currently going on at The Oval in humid overcast conditions and the ball isn’t moving an inch. Either Harmison will feature and let down England once again or they will play two spinners.

Sidebottom should have been a given for Leeds.

Hoping neither happens tbh. Should be Flintoff, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Onions.

I think Sidebottom has next to no chance of playing at the Oval, unless Jimmy fails to recover in time for the test, but nonetheless he is definitely proving he that could have pretty handy if he had played at Headingley.

Anyways just out of curiosity, will a bad game here effect the chances of Bell and Trott's test selection..?

Irrelevant. It's a pro40 game and the white ball hasn't moved an inch anywhere this summer.

I imagine it's a similar feeling South Africa got when they saw Bryce McGain in the Aussie squad.. Where are the alternatives though? Answer is, there aren't any.. RE Sidebottom, the guy is a class act and should have been a dead set selction since he became fit, whenever that was
