Windies play to draw

The 2-day tour match between the West Indies and the Sri Lanka Cricket XI ended in a draw, as the tourists batted to 109/4 at the close, facing a first innings deficit of 272 runs. Denesh Ramdin (17 not out) and Omari Banks (9 not out) were the unbeaten batsmen.

The Sri Lankans started the day on 152/1, and were kept to 382 all out, as Banks took 6 wickets with his offspin. Captain Marvan Atapattu (77) retired on his overnight score, then Tino Best dismissed wicketkeeper Jayawardene before he had scored. Sangakkara (109) and Samaraweera (95) rebuilt the score from 157/2 to 311/3, at the fall of the former.

Offering little resistance, the tail fairly capitulated to the spin of Banks, with the final 6 wickets falling for 44 runs. Banks finished with 6/146 and Best with 2/69.

Facing the towering deficit, Xavier Marshall struck a 67-ball 43, batting onward after losing partner Sylvester Joseph for a duck. Morton (23) and Chanderpaul (10) got starts, but neither pushed on significantly.
