Symonds injures ankle

The Australian cricket team faces an anxious wait over the fitness of Andrew Symonds, who injured his ankle in today’s Test at Hobart.

Early on in his 50 not out innings, Symonds twisted his ankle whilst running between wickets with play being stopped whilst the team physio needed to be called out to asses the situation.

Symonds did not take to the field after the declaration and will not know the full extent of the injury until tomorrow, according to vice-captain Adam Gilchrist.

“The extent of that damage I guess we’ll know more about tomorrow. But he’s icing it up. He was pretty ginger while he was batting and then we kept him off the field to ice up and get some treatment tonight,” Gilchrist told the AAP.
