Powar added to ODI squad

Allrounder Romesh Powar has been added to the Indian One Day International squad as injury cover for Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan sustained an injury to the forefinger on his right hand leading into the first ODI against Pakistan, which India lost by 7 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis system.

Powar, an offspinner, played his two ODIs on the 2003-04 tour Pakistan. He failed to impact with the ball, taking no wickets and conceding 52 runs. Playing for Mumbai, Powar has taken 60 List-A wickets at an average of 31.78, while averaging 19.60 with the bat. After fellow spinner Murali Kartik was hit for 64 runs in 9 overs in the first One Day International, Powar may well feature in the next match, on February 11 at Rawalpindi.
