Ponting to miss rest of Cup

Australia have been dealt a considerable blow today, with the news that captain Ricky Ponting will take no further part in the Twenty20 World Cup.

The premier batsman in world cricket sustained a hamstring injury in his side’s six wicket loss to Pakistan. He did not take part of the rest of the game with Adam Gilchrist, the Australian vice-captain taking over the reigns for the remainder of the match.

The grade-one hamstring injury has ruled him out for the rest of the tournament and there are now doubts as to whether he will take part in Australia’s seven match ODI series in India later in the month.
