New Zealand sweat on Gillespie

New Zealand will be seeking specialist treatment for fast bowler Mark Gillespie after a minor neck injury left his right arm temporarily paralysed during the lengthy flight over to the West Indies.

“Mark has paralysis of his right arm which is not a great thing when you’re a right-arm bowler. But that’ll be short term,” New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming told the media.

Fleming said he was looking forward to his side’s practice matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, saying the games would give a good idea about the types of conditions they could expect in the coming month and a half in the Caribbean.

“Getting used to the conditions is the key one. It’s our first taste of a West Indies pitch. If that’s going to give us an indication of what the others are going to be like, then we’ve got to assess it well and make sure that while looking forward, we start getting combinations that we think will best fit the conditions,” he said.
