Malik endorses Lawson

New Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik, has endorsed his side’s new coach, Geoff Lawson, saying he can bring some of Australia’s winning ways to the Pakistan team.

“The players are very happy that Lawson has joined us. He is an Australian – born and bred in their cricket system and there is no doubt the Australian cricket system is the best in the world today,” Malik told Reuters.

Lawson is a former fast bowler for Australia, playing 49 Tests and 79 ODIs in which he took 180 and 88 wickets apiece. He was appointed coach of Pakistan after the tragic death of Bob Woolmer of natural causes during the World Cup.

Former Pakistan batsman and coach Javed Miandad offered to help Lawson and the new look team earlier this month, despite being critical of his appointment above other potential prospects such as Dav Whatmore.
