Lara WI cricketer of the year

Brian Lara has been named Cricketer of the Year by the West Indies’ Players Association at an awards ceremony in Jamaica. The awards honoured players’ performances in the 2004 season, with the win being Lara’s second in as many years.

Lara also collected Test Player of the Year following his 1178 runs at 58.9, including a world-record 400* against England at Antigua. Allrounder Chris Gayle was named One Day International Player of the Year after another successful year in which he collected 722 runs and 21 wickets in ODIs.

Other major winners were allrounder Dwayne Bravo (Emerging Player of the Year), and batsmen Devon Smith (First Class Player of the Year) and Xavier Marshall (Youth Cricketer of the Year).
