Hussey could miss Indian tour

Australian batsman Mike Hussey may miss his side’s seven match ODI tour of India after sustaining a hamstring injury during yesterday’s semi-final loss to India at the Twenty20 World Cup.

Hussey’s injury setback during the semi-final ended a poor run of hamstring injuries for the Australians throughout the tournament with both Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson falling to similar ailments.

Team physio Alex Kountouris explained the sudden onset of hamstring injuries has been due to a number of factors.

“I think the injuries were a combination of a lot of things – bad luck, early season, fatigue at the end of the tournament, having guys in their 30s. I think the soft ground, particularly in Cape Town where we spent most of our time, was one big factor,” he said

“It wasn’t the ideal sort of planning as well, having to travel two hours every day between games, it’s not what 30-year-olds need. They don’t need to be sitting on airplanes and lifting bags, and packing bags and getting in and out of hotels.”

Australia start their seven match one-day series against India on Saturday in Bangalore.
