Hussey called up

Following his stellar performances in the ODI arena, Mike Hussey has been called up into the Australian test squad as cover for the injured Justin Langer.

Langer, nursing a broken rib, aims to practice tommorow but faces an uphill struggle to be fully fit for Thursday’s test match in Brisbane.

“He would almost certainly wear a guard and he risks sustaining further injury, such as a punctured lung. It’s not a high risk, but the thing about it is it’s quite a serious injury that will have to be explained to him,” said the Australian team doctor, Trefor James.

In Mike Hussey, Australia have a more than capable replacement. Averaging well over 100 from his first 18 ODIs with a strike rate of 95 and more not outs than Billy Bowden, Hussey has proved himself to be a more than useful lower order batsman in ODIs.

Whether he can succeed at test level is yet to be seen, but with a first class average in the 50s and a solid technique, Hussey has all the makings for a test batsman.
