Hayden misses out

Matthew Hayden who is back in an Australian ODI squad for the first time in almost a year, has missed out on selection for Australia’s first match of the tri-series tournament in Malaysia against the West Indies today.

Phil Jaques and fellow New South Welshman Simon Katich have been intrusted with the two opening positions.

With 18 players to select from, the Australian selectors have left out some big names including Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds, Brad Hogg and Brett Lee, but have included Glenn McGrath for his first match in nine months.

The Australians have named a number of inexperienced players including Mark Cosgrove, Mitchell Johnson and Daniel Cullen, as the selectors try and find the right combination for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Australia
Ricky Ponting (captain) Shane Watson, Glenn McGrath, Simon Katich, Mitchell Johnson, Phil Jaques, Brad Haddin, Dan Cullen, Mark Cosgrove, Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken (12th man TBA).
