Gilchrist denies retirement talk

Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist has denied rumors and speculation about his short term future saying he hasn’t planned anything at this stage.

Gilchrist, 35, was rested during the Chappell-Hadlee whitewash in New Zealand last month and has just arrived in the Caribbean, after opting to stay at home for the birth of his third child.

“I’ve never been one to sit down and plot out my goals,” he told the media today.

“I’ve never needed that in my career. I just want to keep playing and be part of a successful team.”

The wicket-keeper batsman also noted that he appreciated the break from cricket and being able to spend time with his family, but now he was fully committed to winning cricket’s biggest prize for a record third consecutive time.

“I had a fantastic time off since the arrival of our third child,” Gilchrist said.

“Everything is going well so it’s nice to have that little break from cricket and get that more important business of family well and truly sorted and now get back and focus on the cricket.

“Everyone could probably have done with a little bit of a freshener, getting that little bit of time was very timely.”

Gilchrist will play in Australia’s warm-up match against England on Friday in Kingstown. It will be the first time the two sides meet since England unexpectedly beat Australia 2-0 in the Commonwealth Bank tri-series final earlier this year.
