Ford named new coach of India

South African Graham Ford has today been named coach of India, ahead of Englishman John Emburey.

Ford, the former South African coach, will take over the job at the head of Indian cricket from Greg Chappell, who quit after the World Cup and interim manager Ravi Shastri.

Both Ford and Emburey made their presentations in front of the BCCI today in Chennai, with Ford getting the nod from the seven member committee.

Ford was highly successful during his tenure as coach of South Africa from 1999 till 2001 and is believed to be the players choice as the new coach of India. He will take over the reins immediately ahead of India’s one day tour of Ireland later this month.

The decision still has to be approved by the BCCI’s working committee, though that is only a formality at this stage.
