Flintoff turns out for Lancs

Andrew Flintoff returned to action as a specialist batsman for Lancashire today, scoring 25.

He was included in their side for a match against the touring Sri Lanka A side, and faced 40 balls, striking four boundaries before he was bowled by Gayan Wijekoon. Flintoff has not played for England all summer, and this was his first outing since undergoing an ankle operation.

After his positive showing today, Lancashire coach Mike Watkinson confirmed he will be playing their County Championship match against Sussex starting Tuesday: “He will be in the squad. There were no complaints at all and everything seems fine.” While he will be playing for his county, he is not likely to bowl until the Lancashire coaching staff are confident he is ready to.

Lancashire won the match at Liverpool by 35 runs. with Sajid Mahmood starring with the ball, taking 5-16.
