Different day, same story

Overnight rain that left the outfield at the Sinhalese Sports Club soggy resulted in another day being called off. The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned for today, to be now played on the reserve day tomorrow, if, and that is a very big if, weather permits.

An inspection in the morning suggested that there could be a possibility of play starting later in the day. However, just as the umpires called the covers off at 1 pm, another round of showers pelted the ground, thus making outfield unplayable on, at least for today.

The two sides will return to the ground tomorrow, considered to have one of the best drainage systems of all cricket grounds in the world, hopefully to play some cricket rather than hanging out in the dressing rooms.
