Brian Lara confirmed for ICL

It has been confirmed that Brian Lara will join the Indian Cricket League (ICL) as a player and captain when the first season commences.

Though no concrete timetable has yet been announced, ICL has been linked to popular players such as Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. So far, only the appointment of Brian Lara has been confirmed.

BCCI has barred all players on its payroll from participating in the ICL, but the league has continued to plan for its inaugural season. The league will have a Twenty20 format, and the winner will receive a prize of 4.4 crore rupees ($1 million USD). Lara said he wanted to be with youngsters again and wanted to return to cricket “in this exciting new avatar.”

While Brian Lara has almost 12000 runs in Test cricket, he never played an international Twenty20 game during his career for the West Indies.
