that is a good stat maybe I am underrating him but I still feel Angelo for Lanka is a bigger loss then Nehra for India.

Mathews is too much of a key player. Gets through a fair number of overs to cover for the 5th bowling option and also adds much needed finishing skills coming in at no.7.

Hasn't really fired this tournament but I think he's done it often enough now to be taken seriously. just gives us that extra balance in the team.

With Mathews SL can play 3 spinners and 7 batsmen in the same side.

Plus he is the only good lower order bat we have, and great under pressure.

Yup, Mathews is gun. I'd rather us call up a pure batsmen like Chandimal or Kausal Silva than Randiv tbh. Our bowling is fine without a 5th specialist.

I wasn't really taking a dig at Matthews, I have stated in the past that he's a player with a great future ahead of him. I'm just mildly annoyed at people doing their level best to downplay India's performance at this World Cup. Two games back a lot of people were running their mouths off about how India could only beat minnows blah, blah, blah. Now that India have a chance of going all the way, people are trying to find ways to discredit it. I'm not talking about this forum in particular, but that's the general impression I get. There are already reports that the India-Pakistan match was fixed, and posters on some other forums whinging about how India can only win a World Cup at home(!!!). Ridiculous.

As for the match tomorrow, should be a great game. 50-50.

awta. I don't know whether it's the media, posters, Dhoni or the Fans (don't infract me please :)) but I do feel some anti India sentiment going around. Not surprised actually, I see alot of annoying Indian supporters who have no idea what they're talking about all the time. Sucks that people don't like the Indian team because of them.

Unless they don't like the Indian players themselves, which I guess is acceptable. In fact I can see my self hating the Indian team if I wasn't Indian

The talk of who being the favorite for tomorrow's final just doesn't make sense to me. Its the World cup final. A real pressure game. The team which handles the pressure will win the match. If you are comparing the teams, there is nothing much to choose between them. SL are a great bowling side. India are a great batting side. It would be extremely difficult to score against the likes of Malinga and Murali. Likewise it would very difficult to contain people like Tendulkar and Sehwag. It opens up a mouth watering contest between bat and ball. Enjoy the game rather than making stupid comments like who is going to destroy whom which would not be the case.

Word has it that Muralitharan may only play as a bowler tomorrow, i.e, a substitute will take his place after he finishes his overs. Now, I have the utmost respect for Muralitharan, but the Indians should not allow that. It's the bloody World Cup final. If they want him to play then he has to bowl and field.

That should not be on no matter whoever it is. Game is bigger than any individual. I don't know how that is possible, if the person is having an injury and still decides to play he should be in the field as well. Isn't there some kind of a rule like this?

I am not very familiar with that particular rule, but I'm sure there's a loophole somewhere that can be exploited (remember that infamous Ricky Ponting run-out in Ashes 2005?).

For those who watched the entire New Zealand-Sri Lanka semi-final - did Muralitharan leave the field as soon as he bowled his ten?

Mathews not playing is a huge blow tbh. He's a matchwinner and adds stability to the middle/lower order of the SL batting lineup. Without him the batting looks pretty fragile.

The thing about that case is that Simon Jones had gone off for a genuine injury (and a very serious one - it just about ended his international career), and more importantly he picked up during the game itself. He had intended to do his fielding duty but couldn't. So I can see the need for substitute fielders.

I do think, however, that playing someone with the specific intention of taking them off before the match even starts is really unsporting. It's akin to sending someone out to open the batting with a runner straight away. If you know he's not fit enough to field then he shouldn't play.

I surely did not feel the same expectation, excitement and tension for the finals as I felt for the Ind-Aus and Ind-Pak match till today. Only now am I slowly getting excited after reading the preview.

Would not call either of the sides favourites considering this is a WC final and both the teams are quite strong. Mathews is a big loss for SL indeed though.

Sehwag needs to provide a rapid start for us and the lack of big scores from him after the first match keeps me hopeful. But the key for an Indian win lies in getting Dilshan and Sanga out early. Scared of these two guys.

So what's the latest on Gambhir? He is absolutely vital in countering Sri Lanka's famous mid-innings spin choke. His fifty played a key role in beating Australia by keeping the RRR at a reasonable rate throughout and I think a major reason why Pakistan lost is that no one was able to play that type of innings: knocking the spinners for ones and twos without taking too many risks.

That goes against the rules, I hope the Indians do not allow this. You simply cannot go into a game with an injury and then substitute yourself when it is convenient.

India have had some tough games to get here, Pak and Australia. SL only played England and NZ, time to crush them!!!!

He will play. Nehra won't, heard Sree will come in.

So no Ashwin again? ITSTL. And though Munaf and Nehra did well in the semi, I really don't like the idea of taking a chance with Munaf and Sree in such a big game. Not least because SL has better batsmen than Pakistan and will target the weak links much more effectively.
