ICC defends Cup final venue - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
    Reported Wed Mar 23, 2011

International Cricket Council chief Haroon Lorgat has defended the decision to stage the World Cup final at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, saying it would provide the perfect setting for the city's favourite son Sachin Tendulkar to script a "fairytale" ending.
"Can you imagine a (more) fairytale ending with Sachin Tendulkar getting a hundred in the final and India winning at the Wankhede which is his home ground?

"And no matter what the number (of seats), we do not have sufficient tickets."
coming from the ICC cheif i think this is really sad

Sucks TBH.The final should have been held at Eden Gardens.Easily the most picturesque ground in the world.

Should've been at North Sydney Oval tbh.

    So bad

Always a shame Eden Gardens doesn't get more games. Awesome ground.

Is it the ICC which decides the grounds or the board? If it is the board as I suspect then what is the big issue? They want to have it at Mumbai for its favourite son and that is nothing bad.

Wasn't the finals venue decided before the world cup started ? Or did they move it after the Semis ?

Eden Gardens getting the final after not being ready for a group stage match is rewarding horrible organising.

Yeah, although at the time of awarding the final they weren't aware it wouldn't be ready.

Would've been interesting to have to move the final at short notice though.

I get the emotional value of the BCCI wanting the final to be in Mumbai since it's Sachin's home ground and it makes sense from that perspective, but this is India's world cup,and logically, the best ground in the country should host the biggest match in the world.

The fact that Eden Gardens wasn't ready when the WC started makes my argument pointless, but the venue of the final was decided even before Eden Gardens was declared not ready.Shifting the venue now would be idiotic, but i think Eden Gardens should have hosted the final when the schedule was being drafted.Makes more sense when you look at the event, the ground, the tourists etc.

The emotional value of Sachin playing his last WC game at his homeground and winning the title for India is priceless however.
