Because you've clearly got 11 players better than him (!)

A quick glance at the official world ratings shows that he is ranked better than any NZ batsman and all but one NZ bowler (owing to his recent missing of the Zimbabwe tour he lost points in both forms)

Yet you think he wouldn't make the side?
We would take him in our struggling test team as well.No second thought about it. And he'd be one of the first names picked along with the likes of Fleming and Vettori. For he is a "very good test player", not excellent. Like Fleming, a "very good test player".

What really gets up my nose as i've previously stated is people talking him up in the same breath as Botham, Imran, Hadlee etc.

IMO he's just not one of the great test players in the world at the moment...
I wouldn't have him up in quite the same plane as Warne, Lara, Dravid, Tendulkar,Mcgrath, Ponting and kallis to name a few who I consider "great test players".

All this said....I have both Flintoff (as well as Cairns :) )in my World oneday team at the moment.

better batter than fleming, astle,McCullum, sinclair i dont think so you can talk about those rankings but stats can prove everything to say he is better than the likes of fleming and astle is just dumb!

lol jus becoz flintoff has found some form at the moment doesnt mean hed be an automatic selection for any team, aus wouldnt select him, id bet pak wouldnt, south africa/nz would, india would given hes a better stand alone pace bowler than any of theres, but there are many all rounders who would walk into a world 11 much easier than flintoff

kallis: easily
clarke: debatable but he *at least in my opinion* seems light yrs ahead in terms of where each was in their respective careers u could rate
malik: been playing very well recently, good calm batsmen, good offspinner *once action is cleared* good fielder - still very young

ok u dont necessarily have 2 agree and im sure ill get flack but thats just my opinion

Can you justify this statement because I'm pretty sure his average has stayed about the same since then??
in 99 and 00 his prime years, he averaged 38 and 37 respectively. in 01 he only played 1 game, and in 02 he averaged 33. in 03 and 04 hes been averaging 30. looks more like a player in decline to me, even if hes still a pretty decent player.

The only potential Oram has is with my WCC team.
you seriously believe that oram doesnt have any potential, especially with bat? despite his averaging over 40 in test match cricket and an average of 62 in the recent series vs australia?

if you are talking a test world 11 kalis -yes but the rest no not even in the one day
What's wrong with his choice in Shoaib Malik? Watch his 82 off 41 against South Africa awhile back.

Batting yes, was referring to bowling though.

Cairns in ODI's after playing his last Test Match
13 Matches, 270 runs@33.75, H/S:74
80 Overs, 18 wickets@17.61, B/B:4/33, RPO:3.96

going by his career averages of 29.72 and 31.63 it's hard for me to see that he is in decline

I assume you're fully aware of the way he's been batting in ODI's over the past 18 months or so?
