mathews used to be one of the best players of hooping swing i've seen. sad that he's regressed so much.

Can anyone think of a more dramatic decline of a player so deep into their career, after 50-odd tests? Mathews' average has declined from 52 to 43 in only 23 tests. Jimmy Adams' was perhaps significantly more dramatic but he'd far fewer tests who the rot really set in.

They are now brining out run-out stats to drop him which I find ludicrous considering how desperate they are for consistent batsmen. Smear campaign, people look after their own backs. Whatever you want to call it.
