Its the most fascinating of score cards.
  • [*]Bermuda scored just 3 runs with the bat.
[*]Three batswomen jointly top scored with a run apiece
[*]Mr Extras contributed more than three times the runs scored by the 11 players
[*]They put Gavaskar's WC batting to shame by taking all of 18 overs to score those 3 runs
[*]Safrica scored the 14 runs in just 4 balls but with only one boundary
[*]Bermuda's only bowler bowled 13 balls in the only over of the innings and had two more (at least) left in the over !

Played at Stellenbosch University 2 on 18 February 2008 (50-over match)]
Result South Africa Women won by 10 wickets (with 296 balls remaining)

And dont miss the run rates of the two sides.

  • South Africa Women RR 22.50
  • Bermuda Women RR (0.72) 0.26(for the 50 overs)

Wonder if any side will ever have a Net Run Rate of +22.24 as S Africa have after this match !!

LOL look at the batswomens technique from the top pic!

L Mienzer - 1 run from 48 balls was the star!

The game was farcical but you have to select the World Cup teams somehow and Bermuda did earn the right to get there by being the best in North America. I know that doesn't say anything for North American women's cricket but it has to be done.

Zimbabwe beat Scotland today as well, Ed Rainsford's sister Yvonne got some runs and wickets, Julia Chibhabha failed with the bat but took a couple too.

This does say something about this crazy idea about gloabalising the game 'by force' as it were.

Why cant the game be allowed to grow where it will - naturally with clubs etc. and then if it improves and evolves to higher levels naturally - great. If not at least we are spared such ludicrous games.

The Bermudan women spent most of the afternoon watching the Pakistan-Ireland game...not looking very happy. I hope for their sakes they do better tomorrow.

As for the standard of women's cricket, apparantly the Irish team got beaten by an under-15 boys team from a local school in a warm-up game. The women's team clearly enjoy playing cricket, but it's a good thing that not all of the matches has got ODI status.

How about a game between the Bermuda women and the Myanmar men's team from this thread:
http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/showthread.php?t=37178

I think it will come down to whichever team can bowl straighter at the stumps, given the scoring patterns.

(Jokes aside - Bermuda has a population of 60,000, ie less than those filling up Eden Gardens or MCG. It is great that they have a women's team, hope this derision doesnt dampen the individual spirits of the members of that team).

Exactly. It's plain madness to suggest the country will ever have the remotest of chances of being an international force in itself, men, women or u9s.

Why on Earth I$C$C bother recognising the place as a separate entity is utterly beyond me. It will benefit no-one. Possibly the most stupid decision ever taken by cricket administrators, and that, of course, is saying quite something.

Bermudan cricket will be of "use" on a World scale only if they become part of somewhere else (ie, West Indies). Even then, the population is less than 1\10th of my county, which can do no better than a strong minor county with its 700,000.

And let's face it - if a country that tiny can seriously be one of the best 16 in The World (and 14 once you consider Ireland and Scotland are basically part of The British And Irish Isles), it doesn't say much for the current state of expansion. Outside Kenya (who are old insiders anyway), Holland and Canada, there's precisely 0 places where there's currently any point whatsoever in even organising extra-Test cricket against other nations.

Dunno, but it should get them a bonus point!
