He never actually posted the whole thing, but a summary is in this PDF - could always ask him for the full data if you're that way inclined

It even has NZ at no. 2 at one point ;)
Its interesting to see that India were number one in 1972-73 and 1974. Wonder what will happen to all the inch thick headlines that screamed NUMBER ONE AT LAST AFTER 77 YEARS just a few days back.

Greg Chappell
Clive Lloyd
Tony Greig
Alan Knott
Dennis Lillee
Jeff Thomson
Andy Roberts
Bishan Bedi

I'd be happy with that team playing for me. :)
Ah, the closest to my birthday I believe. Not surprisingly, we have very similar teams. Though I opted for Gavaskar over Majid and Imran over Greig.

The tail might be long, but who needs to score runs with that bowling lineup?

The ranking algorithms aren't the same to be fair, not that it implies much.

Depending on the pitch I could possibly drop Qadir for Lillee or if its a batting pitch, Greg Chappell. Insane era.

I would have done the same if it had been my choice, but Majid and Greigy had better ratings on that particular day - damn them!

Surprised you have gone for Kanhai to open when Lawry/Redpath successful combo. Would drop Chapeeli from that list and put Kanhai at first drop.Believe it would have better balance.Bedi over Underwood definitely more versatile...Big Garth over Pollock because he could bowl at same pace all day..A real workhorse a Captain could rely upon

Loving that XI. Forget spin bowlers (highest ranked was Abdul Qadir at #9 FTR), wouldn't need one with a bowling line-up like that. Marshall, Akram, Hadlee and Imran Khan, that's ridiculously good. Bat really deep with Richard Hadlee at 9 as well. Even the players just outside the team were awesome as well, with guys like Allan Border, Dilip Vengsarkar and Dean Jones up there in the batting rankings, and then Courtney Walsh, Kapil Dev, Terry Alderman, Merv Hughes and Curtley Ambrose just outside the top 4 bowling options.

Gives me a team of:

Desmond Haynes
Gordon Greenidge
Richie Richardson
Javed Miandad
Viv Richards
Allan Border (c)
Imran Khan
Jeff Dujon (wk)

Malcolm Marshall
Abdul Qadir

Abdul Qadir in ahead of higher ranked bowlers cause we need a spinner. Hell of a tail though, and even Qadir at 11 is no mug. It's tempting to drop one of the batsmen and through in Kapil Dev or another bowler, but it would've meant dropping Border and I wouldn't dare, plus he could chip in with his twirlers.

Damn the Wi were good in the 80s. Hopefully the new batch we have now can mature into a team even half as good as the teams vintage 1980s.

Cheers mate. Fell into the trap of under-rating Garth, like so many have in the past I think.

Was a real toss-up between Underwood and Bedi for the spinning role, likewise Chappell and Kanhai at 3.

Out of interest, I'd like to hear form JBMAC and SJS as to their thoughts on Kanhai as a player, not just in relation to this discussion vs Chappelli, but in general.
