Windies Team Discussion, and Other Related Things Thread

Yep agreed. I also think the spin option is up for debate, I'd like to see someone who genuinely spins the ball.
I don’t think the spin department is as important right now. Plenty of pace options are coming through so even a spinner just to hold down an end would probably be enough

But there’s cause for optimism I think. Realistically the Windies are only one good batsmen away from being very competitive.

I wonder if JDS should come into the middle order as well. Complete waste at 8

I agree batting is the priority for sure, but I would still focus on spinners as well, particularly wrist spin who h can make a huge difference.

100% agree that Josh can bat higher. The way Holder batted in this series, Josh should be above him tbh.

Couldn't find a CPL22 thread. I'm not sure how this has been allowed to happen, but TKR have recruited Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran whilst getting rid of Darren Bravo . So their retained players going into the full draft are:

Kieron Pollard
Sunil Narine
Andre Russell
Nicholas Pooran
Akheil Hossein
Jayden Seales
Tion Webster

That is going to be a mad side for a domestic T20 league. Most overpowered in any T20 league across the world I would wager. Not sure CPL's draft rules are up to standard!

They wanna be the CSK of the CPL.. #DadsArmyWins
It's worse than that though, they are monopolising some of the best younger talent with Seales and Hossein too. It will be a mad team, might as well declare the winner now unless someone else has a crazy good draft and recruits great overseas players.

Polly has retired from international cricket.

Not sure how to feel about it. I think he was an excellent captian for the most part with solid on field tactics and a no-nonesense attitude that was needed to rebuild our white ball set up.

But he was struggling with the bat recently and some of the pressure being put on him by Bajans in particular had created a slightly toxic atmosphere, with false accusations about bullying, amongst other things.

Someone repalcing him in the side might score considerably more runs, but we will certainly miss his presence and leadership.

Captaincy aside, big hitting all rounder isn't a position the West Indies are light in. Holder, Russell, Shepherd, Odeon Smith, Fabian Allen, Kyle Mayers

Kudos to him...that season when he made like 3 tons in the FC season of 2007 (?) you just know that he was gonna be a big thing.

Only if he would have pursued the red ball thing... only if.

Pollard in Windies colors has been somewhat of a bitter-sweet thing. He did a good service tho.

That game last year against SL when he hit the 6 sixes was fun. Thank you Pollard.

Now, it's definitely Nicholas Pooran's team. We need Hetmyer back in here ASAP!

Shermon Lewis is a surprise addition…Would have wanted Keemo Paul or Springer even

But the 4-day tournament is set to resume soon…in a few days I think

NL has picked their squad. They haven't managed to wrest players free from county so this could get really bad.

Pieter Seelaar (c, spin/allrounder); Musa Ahmed (bat), Logan van Beek (seam allrounder), Bas de Leede (bat), Max O'Dowd (bat), Vikramjit Singh (bat), Tonny Staal (bat), Scott Edwards (wk), Shariz Ahmad (spin), Philippe Boissevain (spin), Aryan Dutt (spin), Clayton Floyd (spin), Vivian Kingma (seam), Fred Klaassen (seam), Ryan Klein (seam), Teja Nidamanuru (spin)

Thanks for the squad info...

If there isn't an *Official* thread for this series, I can go and make one.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, the former West Indies captain, has relinquished his role as selector of the men's senior and junior panel with immediate effect due to personal reasons. The resignation comes just five months into a term that was set to run until the middle of 2024.

Robert Haynes, the former legspinner who currently serves as selector in the junior panel, will serve in an interim capacity in Sarwan's place until CWI recruits another candidate "in the shortest time possible."

"Given the depth of his experience in the game, we are disappointed that Ramnaresh is unable to continue in the role of selector, but we fully understand and accept his reasons," CWI Director of Cricket and former captain Jimmy Adams was quoted as saying in a statement.

This is a loss for us. Sarwan had a decent blueprint on where our need to be in order to be considered for selection...one was a high score on the Yoyo test...another was batting average greater than 40

Gutted Ronnie left. I wonder if he couldn't see eye to eye with Desmond Haynes? I did think the teams so far have been very conservative.

Anyway, it's that exciting time where the selectors sit after the domestic season and pick the first test squad of the home season.

For me the big questions are around the second opener and one middle order spot.

I think Tage deserves a go as opener after his monumental season. I worry about his strike rate still but you can't argue with his crease occupation.

The middle order spot is hard. Brooks stank up the place against England, he deserves a drop. But who replaces him? Devon Thomas scored the most runs of the middle order options but I severely doubt his ultra aggressive style (strike rate of 93) will work at international level. Personally, I'd pick Brandon King, he has a decent FC record and played the innings of the season in his one match this year.

The only other consideration is whether Roach and Gabriel are fit and if not whether to reward Jeremiah Louis and Keemo Paul for a superb season or to stock with Anderson Phillip.

My squad for Bangladesh:

Kraigg Braithwaite (c)
Jermaine Blackwood (VC)
Joshua Da Silva (wk)
Tage Chanderpaul
Nkrumah Bonner
Brandon King
Kyle Mayers
Jason Holder
Raymon Reifer
Veerasammy Permaul
Jayden Seales
Shannon Gabriel (Anderson Phillip)
Kemar Roach (Keemo Paul)

Raymon Reifer is the most unWI-like WI allrounder ever. I love him though. I agree that it's time for Tage now but I was thinking recently that I reckon Reifer would offer more utility as opener than the 'specialists' WI have been picking there. I think he'd reliably see off the new ball and average mid 20s, which doesn't sound very exciting but when the competition is filled with players whose typical contribution is 16 (28) it becomes more enticing to at least give the middle order some breathing room with some consistency - plus he's a frontline bowler offering a point of difference with his left arm meds and a good catcher. Having him and Mayers in the top order would definitely justify batting to 8.
