WI to host 20/20 WC in 2010

The English calendar is perhaps busier than the Australian one, though, and we're hosting it next summer

TBH the main reason why Australia don't try to get these events is cus their home fixtures are full. Also these matches would be played out season and therefore no crowds will watch.

Surely their home fixtures aren't any busier than England's, though? I could be wrong, but we have Seven Tests, Ten ODIs, two T20s, and a heap of domestic cricket every year, next year you can add a T20 WC to that, it just got squeezed in and still managed to avoid the footy season as far as I know

The thing with the Australia fixtures is that it is set for 3-4 years down the track. With England it is similar but there is more space. epecially if Sri Lanka pull out next season.

I have read bull**** abt BCCI, but this "conspiracy" post takes the cake.

The problem with Australia is that, their season is littered with Aus matches, and the crowded calendar doesnt permit scheduling the tourney at a diff time. To suggest BCCI is all out to deny Australia is crock**** since they've given Australian teams the go at the Champions League than WI.
Firstly, CA earns absolutely bugger all from the Champions League

Secondly, if you think the BCCI cares about anything other than themselves and the almighty buck ......

BCCI is a sad joke of an organisation whose only concern is lining their own pockets

Duh. Am not in the mood to start another ****long of posts waging the BCCI-anti-BCCI thing.

Bottomline is that Cricket Australia leapt into the Champions League, and is trying to ape the IPL.

Also, agree with you that BCCI is money-minded.

Wait, CA getting nothing from CL? You have source for that? Don't they stand to earn millions if one of the two teams win the trophy?

Was that directed at me? CA get a share of the revenues being a founding partner of the league (how the ECB must rue a missed opportunity), as well as the prize money if one of their teams happens to win the shindig.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasnt the ODI WC in WI a bit of a disaster?

Obviously, ICC's strategy is to keep giving tournaments to people until they get it right
You're wrong. It was a complete disaster.

Is there any particular reason why World cups or champions trophys arent held on Australia? The stadiums in Australia hold the maximum capacity, the last world cup that was held there was a major success and they have some of the best facillities around the world. Yet 16 years and counting since the last major tournament was played there.
Want to move themselves to a proper bloody timezone, then we can talk.

Shocker of a decision, I don't think that you'll find many people that will honestly say that the WI WC 2007 was anything other than a shambles.

twenty20 world cup 2010 will need to be much bettr ran then the last world cup we had in the west indies...it was an actuall disgrace in my opinion...very poorly done.

The mistake wasn't made today, though, people. It was made whenever the Windies were given the CT (if you deem it to be a mistake). All that's happened today is that T20 has replaced the CT.

west indies shouldnt be allowd to have it. they showed last year they clearly arent capable of producing an exciting tournament with decent attendances

Just to clarify, how many teams are touring England next season?
By the current count, 11. That is, counting SL's tour, Aus's tour and the Twenty20 world thingy as separate things. And not counting England as touring themselves for the Twenty20 World thingy.

And Australia, unlike pretty well everywhere else, seem to take the somewhat sensible attitude that if you've the choice between hosting games that no-one will watch and hosting nothing, the latter is the wisest choice.
